Freebie Friday with Memoir Your Way

Happy Friday Stamp & Scrapbook Expo friends and fans, Becki here with another amazing giveaway. This time, I have something a little different that I’m really excited about. (Honestly, I wish that I could be eligible to win this prize.) This week we have a great book to share with you. Memoir Your Way: Tell Your Story Through Writing, Recipes, Quilts, Graphic Novels, and More is a fabulous new book. Here’s what you need to know about this book: Be inspired with this book for crafty people! Memoir Your Way: Tell Your Story Through Writing, Recipes, Quilts, Graphic Novels, and More is full of ideas for capturing meaningful moments, people, and places in our lives. The chapter titled “Reinvent Your Scrapbook” shows how to experiment with fun flaps, folds, pockets, and pull-outs to add stories to your pages. Why not use ideas from the food chapter to make a cookbook scrapbook that tells the stories behind each recipe? Or a fabric scrapbook that draws inspiration from the quilting chapter? The possibilities are endless! The book even includes chapters on nurturing children as storytellers, writing personal and family stories in a graphic novel format, and other memoir-related topics. The book’s six authors call themselves The Memoir Roundtable and include a writer, scrapbooker, cookbook editor, quilter, literacy expert, and graphic novelist.  In this example by co-author Katherine Nutt from the scrapbook chapter, the “cheese chest” opens to reveal a nonsense question-and-answer-game that her grandmother played with her. Here’s the story of a bear’s unexpected visit to a campsite (with moveable magnet character). This scrapbook keepsake for a favorite aunt highlights some special memories with her.

I have long believed that our scrapbooks should contain not only the good, but the bad, not only the big events like Christmas and birthdays, but the small ones, too, like shopping for groceries or household chores. These things that seem so mundane to us will be treasures to others, and a true view of what our lives were really like. They will be reminders to us long after we have forgotten the simple things.

I know I won’t be around many more years due to major health issues but have been struggling to tell my story for my three grandchildren so they can say that they knew me even when I am gone! I think this book would help me get what I want to say out of my head and onto paper! Fingers tightly crossed! ??????
