Technique Spotlight with Paige Evans: Big Stitched & Painted Titled

Hello friends! Today I have a new layout to share with you featuring some of my favorite techniques: a combined stitched and painted BIG title!

To make this layout, first, I downloaded the “Now is the New Later” cut file from the Silhouette Design Store – it is one of the phrases found in my Oh My Heart collection with Pink Paislee! In a new Silhouette document, I enlarged the title and rotated it slightly to make it at an angle. Next, I replaced the blade in my Cameo with a pencil using the pen holder adapter tool and drew the title onto Paper 07 from Oh My Heart. I used a paper piercer to poke a hole every 1/8″ or so over the title. While we were on a 7 day Spring Break road trip, I brought this project along and stitched away during the long drives between cities!

I love the dimension and texture stitching adds. To help the title stand out even more I painted it in with acrylic paint. The thread makes a nice buffer so painting inside the letters is really easy and you don’t have to be careful about going outside the lines!

Then came the fun part of adding a photo and embellishments! I chose a recent photo of myself – I rarely scrap photos of just me but I hope my kids and family members will appreciate it. I fussy cut flowers from Paper 06 and combined those with die cut flowers to create a pretty photo mat. The page was looking very busy so I added a large block of purple paper at the bottom to cover some of the busy patterned paper background.

I hope that you are inspired to try this technique (or rather, combination of techniques)! It’s one of my favorites!
