Vellum Overlay Cards

Do you have spring fever?  I know I sure do!  After the winter most of us had, I am sure you are ready for some beautiful spring-themed projects.  With spring on it’s way, it is also a reminder that Easter is just around the corner.  When I think about spring or Easter, pretty pastel colors and flowers come to mind.  So with that said, I would like to share some fun projects using flowers.  I hope today you will be inspired with these fun spring projects.

Best Days Of Our Lives By Alicia McNamara

We all know how much texture and dimension adds to a layout, card, or mixed media project. Alicia has definitely demonstrated this in this layout. We often use the term “Happy Papercrafting” because we know the opportunities with paper are so much more than just on the page.  Today, Alicia shares her gorgeous example of beautiful altered art. I would also like to share a tip that will help you when creating your outstanding layouts.  TIP: Choose a focal point on your layout and then create embellishments that will continue to tell the story from that point.  It is amazing how well this works!

Best Days Of Our Lives

Alicia’s layout is full of all kinds of beautiful elements.  It is really light and colored with some pastels, but there are also some black parts here and there to give it a nice contrast.  I absolutely love that!  Alicia adds wording perfectly and it tells so much about the photo.  This layout is certainly an eye catcher and is very well done.  Let me take you over to Time to Create where you can write down all of the products you will need to start your own layout.  Take some time while you are at Alicia’s blog to see more of her beautiful creations.  You will certainly leave her blog feeling very inspired.

Vellum Overlay Cards By Jennifer McGuire

Not sure how to use vellum?   Do you ever struggle using vellum?  Here’s a fun technique using vellum that will turn your curiosity (or struggles) into having fun and being very creative.  You will enjoy working with vellum so much that I guarantee you will make many more projects using it. These beautiful cards created by Jennifer McGuire have a vellum overlay that give each one a very soft look.

Vellum Overlay Cards

Jennifer started her cards by simply using white embossing powder to emboss the floral image on vellum.  There is a little bit of glitter added to the lines of the flower for extra interest and a pearl added to the center. Adding some color to her image, she started by stamping the layering floral image with the Altenew Beautiful Day Stamp Set using different shades of Altenew ink on a small note card.  Let me escort you over to watch Jennifer’s YouTube Video on how she created her card, along with her step-by-step instructions.  You are going to love every minute of her video.  Step out of your comfort zone and take some time to experiment and just have fun creating!

Absolutely Beautiful By Melissa Phillips

Cards might be little, but they are packed with so much inspiration.  This is one of those cards that can be so versatile.  Send it as a Spring, Hello, Birthday, Thinking Of You, or even an Easter Card.  Who wouldn’t love to receive this adorable card in the mail?

Absolutely Beautiful

Melissa’s card started with the word beautiful to create the theme for her card.  She used the Reverse Confetti You’re So stamp set for her sentiment.  The beauty of this stamp set is it has four uplifting words that can be mixed and matched to create numerous uplifting sentiments.  She also used the Blooms ‘N Buds stamp set to create the pretty blossoms.  For the background, Melissa used the XOXO Hearts Confetti Cuts.  Melissa’s creativity is amazing!  I love her combinations and the colors she chose are so pretty and perfect!  Click here and I will take you over to see more of Melissa’s wonderful talent and fabulous creations.

Lovely Friend By Wanda Guess

You can create a very elegant look by using grey and black and adding a small amount of color to your card.  Use a water brush to move the color around on your paper to achieve the look you desire.

With the same design, you can create another version using bright colors and a different sentiment while you still have your supplies out!  You will be surprised how different the two cards will look just by changing the colors.

Thinking Of You

Wanda Guess created these beautiful designs by stamping and heat embossing the main image.  She used Kuretake Clean Color Brush Makers to achieve her color.  Wanda added some ink splatters and clear gems to complete the card.  Don’t you just love it when cards come together so quickly?  Be sure to stop by A Blog Called Wanda anytime you crave some serious inspiration. Lemon Curd By Stacy Bryce

Lemon curd is a thick, soft, and velvety cream that has a wonderfully tart, yet still sweet, citrus flavor.  Seeing a jar of lovely yellow lemon curd in the refrigerator will brighten up anyone’s day! Serve this over shortbread, or try this tangy spread instead of jam for toast, English muffins, scones, or muffins.  This also makes a great filling for cakes, pies, and tartlets, too.

Lemon Curd

Lots of zest and juice gives the curd that delicious lemon flavor. Get the recipe from Wicked Good Kitchen, where Stacy will give you all the ingredients you’ll need to get started.

Lemon Ice Box Pie Cupcakes

Doesn’t this look like a perfect summer treat?  I have a lemon tree in my backyard, so I am always on the lookout for new lemon recipes to share. I discovered this yummy summer dessert on the Project Cupcake blog. I recommend stopping by for a visit; she has many fun & delicious recipes, sure to inspire you in the kitchen.

Lemon Ice Box Pie Cupcake

Lemon ice box pie is the lemon version of key lime pie – with a small but important twist. On a hot, sticky  summer day, lemon ice box pie always beats out its key lime cousin because lemon ice box pie is served frozen!

Rather than the traditional graham cracker crust, these lemon ice box pie cupcakes have a lavender benne seed shortbread crust.  The lavender is almost undetectable unless you are looking for it.  However, it adds a complex floral note that makes the cupcakes seem extra-special – even if you can’t put your finger on why.

Enjoy

Think of the top of your lemon ice box pie cupcakes as a palette.  There’s tons of room up there for whatever fresh fruit you can find!  If you are still looking for that perfect summer holiday cupcake, lemon ice box cupcakes topped with red raspberries and blueberries would surely fit the bill!

Lemon Ice Box Pie Cupcake Recipe

Yield:  6 jumbo cupcakes (or 12 regular-sized cupcakes)

1

 Lavender Benne Shortbread Crust

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup lavender sugar (I recommend a lavender sugar that is not too intensely lavender-flavored.  Stef used  lavender sugar from The Charleston Spice Company.  You can use plain white sugar or any other flavored sugar that you like.)
  • 3 tablespoons benne (sesame) seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 1/2 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter cut into small pieces

1

  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl mix all ingredients except butter.
  • Mix in butter until mixture resembles course sand. (I find it easiest to do this with my hands )
  • Press mixture into the bottom of six jumbo cupcake liners, making sure that it is somewhat evenly divided between them (no one will ever know if it’s not perfect, so don’t stress).
  • Bake at 350 F for 15 minutes or until the crust is a light brown.

1

While the shortbread crust is Stef’s own recipe, the lemon ice box pie recipe is converted to cupcakes from Food and Wine.

  • 2 cans (14 oz each) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest
  • 8 large egg yolks
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)
  • Lemon basil leaves for garnish (optional)
  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk the condensed milk with the lemon juice.
  2. In another medium-sized bowl, beat the lemon zest with the egg yolks until pale.
  3. Beat in the condensed milk mixture until smooth.
  4. Pour the filling into the prepared cupcake liners (if the crust is still hot, that’s fine – it doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold).
  5. Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes or until the center jiggles slightly and the edges are set.
  6. Let cupcakes cool for 1 hour (until they come to room temperature).
  7. Loosely cover the cupcakes with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 6 hours.
  8. Top with fresh berries and lemon basil leaves just before serving.

Sit back & enjoy!
