Sundays With Lorraine

Happy fall, my crafty friends, and welcome back to Weekly Scrapper. It’s hard to believe that it’s October already and that means beautiful fall foliage (if you’re lucky), warm cozy sweaters, holiday crafting, and of course, everything pumpkin. It’s my favorite time of the year and I can’t wait to start my holiday crafting. Since you have arrived it must be time to start today’s creative therapy.

Don’t Forget to Be Awesome

A priceless photo or two, some artsy techniques in the background, and topped off with some handwritten journaling to add that personal touch, creates the perfect recipe for an amazing layout, a real work of art. I love how Riikka used the foils to add that subtle shimmer throughout the background as well as on the photo. Did you know that most foils will stick to just about any sticky surface? On this layout, Riikka used several ways to apply the foil, one of which she stamped a pattern using Wow! Embossing Ink and covered the stamped image with Bonding Powder.  While the powder was still hot she placed the foil on top. You can also use a stencil and a glue stick but remember, the image won’t be quite as defined as if you used a stamp. The possibilities are endless!

There is so much more than first meets the eye. I highly recommend stopping by the Wow! Blog to check out Riikka’s article where she generously shares some great techniques that were used to create this adorable layout. Happy scrapping, my friends.

You Got This By Barbara Anders

I can’t think of a better way to offer a bit of encouragement than to send one of your handmade treasures through the mail. This clean and simple card is proof that sometimes less is definitely more. Who wouldn’t feel the love after opening the mailbox to find this heartfelt card?

I hope you’ve been inspired to break out the foam tape and create your own peek-a-boo elements with your favorite dies. Big hugs to Barbara for being such a constant inspiration to her fellow paper crafters. Keep up the great job you are doing by sharing those smiles one handmade card at a time.

Family Birthday Tracker

While spending some quality time on my Pinterest boards, I came across this adorable birthday tracker that I shared a while back and knew I needed to revisit this one for the holidays. Being the talented crafter that you are, do your friends and family look forward to receiving one of your handmade treasures during the holidays? I’m thinking that they do! 😉  I made several of these one year to give to the girls for Christmas and they were a huge hit. The hardest part is to gather all the birthdays. If that’s not an option you can leave the tags blank and let them fill them in later; you could even include a fine-tipped marker.

After all, not everyone is blessed with the gift of being super organized, so having this handcrafted birthday reminder is a beautiful way to keep track of everyone’s birthday at a glance. Since I travel so much with the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo and am on a plane more than I am in my Toyota, I am always late for someone’s birthday so I can use all the help I can get, how about you?.   Click here and I will be happy to take you over to the original source of inspiration so you create your own birthday tracker. That’s one gift you can check off your list.

Artichoke and Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta

Are you looking for a quick and easy solution for dinner tonight? Then you are gonna love this yummy pasta dish that can be on the table in less than 30 minutes. It would take longer to order a pizza and your family will love this homemade goodness. A real comfort food for the cooler weather that’s been knocking at our door. You know my motto – less time in the kitchen leaves more time in your craft room!

Click here and I will escort you over to one of my favorite food blogs Julie’s Eats & Treats, so you can print out the recipe. You and your family will be glad you did. Bon appetit!

Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you have an amazing week ahead of you. Hugs to all and I look forward to seeing you back next Sunday.

Sundays With Lorraine

Hello, my crafty friends, and welcome back to Weekly Scrapper. I just returned home from our Chicago show and I am happy to report that a fun time was had by all.  I’d like to send a huge note of thanks to all those creative souls that I had the opportunity to meet in person; you really made it a wonderful show.

City On The Square By Lucy

I must confess, I do have a soft spot for a nice city scape, it must be the New Yorker in me. I love how Lucy arranged the buildings by size to create the illusion of depth – so clever. The buildings were die cut using the Tim Holtz Cityscape Buildings then colored using Distress Oxides To achieve the proper perspective of the city, Lucy drew a set of squares increasing in size by 1/2″ increments, cut the centers out, painted them different colors from dark receding to light. Talk about an eye for detail – this project is definitely on my crafting bucket list.

If you are as inspired as I am to give this amazing project a try, click here and I would be honored to escort you over to A Vintage Journey Blog so you can check out all the fine details of how this gorgeous piece came together. Kudos to Lucy for sharing this amazing project with us.  I also recommend stopping by her blog Glue and Glitter anytime you are in need of some serious inspiration.

Love You To The Moon And Back By Nichol Spohr

Don’t you just love how the Wonky Rectangles Frame Die adds lots of visual interest to the background of this precious baby card? What a bonus that you don’t even have to break out the sewing machine, the die adds the detail for you.  Keep in mind that it would be very easy to change the card to accommodate the little boys in your life simply by changing the color combination.

To watch the creation of this sweet moon and stars card featuring Simon Says stamps and dies, click here and I will escort you over to Nichol’s blog so you can take notes. I’d like to send a shout out to Nichol for being a constant inspiration to her fellow paper crafters.

Sundays With Lorraine

Hello, my crafty friends, and welcome back to Weekly Scrapper. Do you enjoy the summer heat or do you spend most of your time in the comforts of your cool, air-conditioned craft room? Either way, I hope that you are experiencing a wonderful summer day.  Now that you’ve arrived here, we can begin our creative therapy, so sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Art Journal By Kath Stewart

Just looking at this beautiful art journal cover inspires me to break out my supplies and get my craft on, I hope it does the same for you. Kath even created her own journal using Eileen Hull’s fabulous journal die. Here I go enabling again, but I do believe this is a “need it in your life die.” Think of all the possibilities – art journals, travel journals, and mini albums, do I need to say more? Add your own handmade tags and pockets to house your memorabilia and before you know it, you will have an amazing album and/or art journal suitable for gift giving. What’s not to love about this fabulous project?

If you have been inspired by Kath’s journal, click here and I’ll take you over to her blog “The Cubbyhole” so you can scrap lift some of her great tips and tricks. I love her philosophy, if you don’t have an item that you need – just alter something else and make it work.  Now that’s being creative! Hugs to Kath for showing us how it’s done. I almost forgot, if you, too, need Eileen Hull’s journal die, you can go over to the Sizzix Blog to purchase your own or if you are planning on attending any of our Stamp & Scrapbook Expos I highly recommend stopping by the booth It’s Cheaper Than Therapy.com.  Maria B is the Sizzix Queen and she always has a great selections of Sizzix products. Happy crafting!

Hello Summer Card By Nichol Spohr

How adorable is this summer-themed card that I discovered on the Simon Says Blog? Nichol Spohr created this super fun card using components of the new Summer Hello July 2017 Card kit! To complete the design, she also used the Nuvo crystal drops in DandelionRipened Pumpkin, and Carnation as well as our Dot Scallop Border! I love how Nichole mixed and matched her patterned papers to create those adorable bikinis. What a great way to use even your tiniest scraps. Way to go, Nichol, thanks for being such a constant inspiration to your fellow paper crafters!

I highly recommend watching the video that Nichol has prepared; she really has lots of tips and techniques to share. She also shares step-by-step instructions on how easily this fun card comes together. Click here and I will be happy to escort you on over to the Simon Says Blog.

Beach Themed Cards By Lisa

In honor of summer, Lisa created this adorable beach-themed card. I love how she combined several different dies to create her own unique beach scene. Way to go, Lisa, you truly are an inspiration! I can also see this done on a larger scale to use as a fun cover for a summer-themed mini album. Lisa has an amazing eye for detail as you can see by this sweet card. I highly recommend stopping by her blog A Mermaids’ Crafts so you can take notes on what supplies were used. I know that there is a die or two that you need in your life!

This is one of those cards that most people will leave out all summer just because It makes them feel happy. It brings me back to the beach on a beautiful summer day. I hope you’ve been inspired to send one of your handmade treasures and brighten someone’s day. One can never receive too many of your handmade treasures.

Caribbean Pulled Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Tell me this recipe doesn’t scream summer! And you don’t even have to heat up the kitchen. 😉  It’s perfect served in the lettuce wraps or as Lexi said “You can even add the chicken to your favorite greens for a delicious, protein-packed salad any night of the week!” You are going to love it, cook once and enjoy twice.

This is one of those meals that you can dump in the crockpot and stroll right back to your craft room where you belong while the crockpot works its magic. Complete the meal by scooping the chicken into your lettuce wraps, top with your favorite add-ons, and enjoy as the compliments come rolling in. Big hugs to Lexi for sharing yet another delicious recipe to add to our book of culinary masterpieces.

I do hope you will take a minute or two to visit the individual blogs I have shared today so you can see more details on these wonderful projects. Hugs to all who have shared the inspiration for today’s post. With a little help from our creative friends, we can all create beautiful things.

The Best Day By Anita Bownds

You are in for a real treat today!  You’re going to love this shabby chic layout created by such an amazing designer, Anita Bownds. There are so many pretty details on this layout!  Anita created this layout using the Sage & Grace collection by Kaiser Kraft and I know that you will love working with this collection.

The Best Day

This collection was just perfect for creating those fussy cut flower clusters.  Anita added some wood flourishes and tucked them under the flower clusters.  What a great way of adding some dimension to her layout.  I love how Anita made the main focus of her layout the hot air balloon.  Adding two different patterned papers behind it gave it some color and made it really pop out.   Wow, this is such a stunning layout! If you are more of a visual person, then click here and I will lead you on over to a full step-by-step video.  You will not only learn how to create this fabulous layout but will be so inspired by Anita as well.

Recipe Box By Manila Guerilla

Who says a recipe box can’t be pretty?  Not long ago I was looking for one of my mother’s recipes and I came upon an old tin box that she kept all of her recipes in.  So many fond memories popped into my head.  When I came across this wonderful make over idea, I knew I needed to give this a try and refurbish her recipe box to something beautiful.  I love the way that Manila made this so simple, but yet it is so pretty.  This is such a wonderful keepsake that will be passed down through many generations.

Sundays With Lorraine

Hello, my crafty friends and thank you for stopping by. I’ve just returned home from a mini marathon of shows – Atlanta, GA, Kansas City, MO and ending in beautiful Santa Clara, CA. I am happy to report that the Creativity Center was on fire and a fun time was had by all – hugs to all those creative people that I had the privilege of meeting in person.  You are the reason that the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo has been doing shows for 20 years. It’s always a pleasure to create something beautiful with you in person. It’s like having my cake and eating it, too. Hugs to all!

Inspiration Butterfly ATC By Riikka Kovasin

You all know how I love a good inky background and these artsy ATC cards designed by the very talented Riikka Kovasin are no exception. It’s a little hard to see in the photo that the butterflies are stamped on acetate, cut out, and sewn to the card. I love the visual interest that it adds to the project without overpowering the cards.

Artist Trading Cards are pieces of art that can fit on a 2.5″ by 3.5″ piece of card stock paper. The possibilities are endless; remember that if you can imagine it you can create it. They are a great way to share your art with others. I hope you’ve been inspired to break out your favorite supplies and give these fun cards a try. I must warn you – they are a bit addictive, so once you get the fever it’s hard to stop. Remember there are no rules; just have fun with your art.

Block Watercolor Stamping By Jennifer McGuire

I’d like to send a shout out to Jennifer McGuire for revisiting the art of water coloring with your acrylic blocks. It’s fun, easy and oh-so-showy. As you can see by these beautiful cards, the end results are stunning. Try using different size and shaped blocks to create all kinds of designs.

I highly recommend stopping by Jennifer’s blog to check out the video she prepared; you are going to love all the samples that she has to share. I hope you’ve been inspired to break out those acrylic blocks and your favorite dye based inks and or markers and create your own unique works of art.

Italiana Riviera Tile Coasters by Kathy

It makes me smile using my treasured stamps on things other than paper. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a paper crafter at heart, it’s what I do!  I live and breath scrapbooking, from layouts to cards to tags to mixed media projects; big or small I love ’em all!  But there is something to be said about walking into your craft room and coming out with a handmade gift. Wouldn’t this adorable set of coasters make a nice hostess gift at the next BBQ you’re invited to? Add a bottle of their favorite wine and you are the hero. 😉
Add a cute tag and a simple ribbon and your handmade gift is ready to go.

Who would have guessed that these artsy coasters started out as a plain tile that was purchased at a home improvement store? I don’t want to frighten you, but the holidays are right around the corner and if we start our holiday crafting now we can enjoy the holidays instead of stressing out about not being prepared.  For further details along with a supply list, click here and I will be happy to escort you over to Kathy’s blog Joyfully Made Designs so you can see how easily this project comes together.

Glazed Pineapple and Shrimp Kabobs

These easy-to-make shrimp kabobs are sure to be a hit at your next BBQ. You’ll be happy to know that you can have them ready to serve in about half an hour, and another added bonus is that they are Weight Watcher friendly, too.

I highly recommend stopping by and spending some quality time with our friends over on the KITCHme Blog; they have the best selection of recipes – everything from desserts, drinks, complete meals, etc. If you are following the Weight Watchers program, kudos to you. Losing weight shouldn’t be a flavorless process and thanks to KITCHme, we can all enjoy our favorite foods.

Thanks for stopping by; I always enjoy our creative time together. It’s show time for me and the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo. The marathon of shows is still in full swing and with 19 shows around the nation, the question is not what show you should attend, but rather how many shows you CAN attend! I’ll meet you at the Creativity Center. Hugs to all!
