Technique Spotlight with Paige Evans: Backing Cut Files

The Silhouette Cameo has completely changed the way I scrapbook. I use it to create so many of my layouts! One of my favorite techniques is to back die cut shapes with patterned papers. Here are five examples out of dozens (what can I say, I never met a doily I didn’t want to back!) that show this technique:

Backing shapes with patterned papers can be a time-consuming process if you have to cut each piece by hand, but the look is so striking and I find it therapeutic, so it’s worth it to me!

I like to die cut the shapes from white cardstock to break up the patterns and make the colors pop!

I love using collections to back shapes – the colors go together well and it takes the thinking out of the selecting process!

I love to create my own cut files from time-to-time instead of purchasing them. Here I designed a “hearts in a heart” cut file and backed all of the hearts with different patterned papers.

Cut files don’t have to remain “as is” – on this layout I cut out the circle and then cut it in half to place on either side of a layout. Think outside the box when it comes to shapes and cut files!

Thanks for letting me share – see you again soon!

I’m not familiar with how the silhouette Cameo. Does it come with a program offering these cut outs or do you purchase them separately. Your layouts are great! I live them!!
