A Christmas stocking can be the perfect way of giving a gift this holiday season, and can also be a fun and festive decoration for your own home as well. You will love today’s inspiration created by Andrea Gourley. With Christmas approaching, I thought this would be a treasured gift to create.
To make the stocking, use burlap and cut out the size of stocking you desire. Sew around the edges and clip to the stitch line around the toe and heel. This will make it easy to turn and give the stocking a smooth, round edge. Turn right side out. Next, add a gathered 3″ lace to the top of the stocking. Stitch a beautiful braided or pearl border along the top of the stocking.
Check out your jewelry box for an old broach that you don’t use any more, and if you don’t have one, visit a thrift store. Apply it to your fun stocking. Sew some streamers of pearls down the side of the stocking. Now you have a beautiful handmade stocking to give as a gift, or place a gift inside, or use in your own home décor. A big thank you to Andrea for sharing this outstanding project. Jump on over and visit Andrea’s blog Playing With Paper.
Happy Holidays to you and yours!
