Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started scrapbooking: Hey, hey! Let’s see… I’m a work-from-home wife and mom of three crazy monkey-children, one girl & two boys. I love photography, typography, computer-stuff, reading, diy-ing stuff, cooking (sorta), and scrapbooking! I’ve been doing some sort of documenting for as long as I can remember. When I was in grade school I remember taking photographs that my Mom had developed and sticking them onto those sticky photo pages with the clear cover (am I dating myself here?). In high school I would cut words from magazines and add them to my photos and memorabilia… and in college I would document my everyday in my assignment notebooks. When stickers and patterned paper first became available I thought I had found heaven. And now there is not a day that goes by that I don’t (at least try to) do something creative.

Favorite thing to scrap: Definitely photos of my kids… they are my greatest inspiration!

What do you love about scrapbooking? I truly think that documenting the lives of the people in my family is an extremely important responsibility. Scrapbooking is not only a fun and beautiful way for me to fulfill that responsibility, but it is also a wonderful way for me to expend my creative and, dare I say, fickle, energy. I love that I can start and finish a page in just a few hours, and that there are so many different techniques to experiment with… scrapbooking never gets boring… there is always something new to learn.

5 fun facts about yourself:
1.
I got my degree in Biology and planned to start a career working in a lab. Wow, what I’m doing now could not be further from that. I love it.
2. I LOVE listening to audiobooks. During the day when my kids are at school that’s all you’ll hear in my house.
3. I love traveling with my family, but I also love to sleep in my own bed. So day-trips are especially awesome.
4. I could eat dessert after breakfast… and some days I do.
5. I get up around 4am so that I can finish my housework before the kids leave for school, then I have the rest of the day to myself… to nap.

Here is the layout Maggie made for her spotlight:

MY GIRL by Maggie Massey

My daughter was messing around with my camera one day…snapping photos of herself in the mirror. Later in the evening I was going through the photos she’d taken and I came across this one…and I LOVE it. I had just recently received some beautiful (and super-fun!) paper and, as soon as I saw her brightly colored lips in the photo, I knew that the two together would be perfect on a page. In fact, if I had to choose the colors and patterns that best fit my daughter’s personality…these would be the ones.

And here are a few other projects Maggie made that she loves:

CHA by Maggie Massey

For the past three years I have traveled to California for the CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) Winter show. It’s one of the highlights of my year…and I LOVE looking back on the photos I’ve taken and scrapped from those trips. This is one of my favorite layouts documenting this past year’s trip.

HELLO RIVERWALK by Maggie Massey

I love to combine different patterns and textures on my pages. More natural elements (like wood veneer) combined with geometric patterns and shapes and bright, bold colors just look so cool to me.

TIME TO PLAY by Maggie Massey

Two-page layouts are something I make more and more of these days, but I usually stick with the 8.5 x 11″ format. The photo I used for this one just screamed summer to me so I thought it would be fun to use it to document our bucket list last year.

ALTERED BOOK by Maggie Massey

These shots were from an altered book I created last fall for Thanksgiving. I decked it out with a bunch of printables/cut-files from Kerri Bradford. I’ve been dabbling in mixed media more and more and I love the creative freedom that comes from it!

Thanks for joining us in the spotlight, Maggie! See everyone again next Wednesday!
