Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started crafting: I’ve always considered myself to be a creative person, and growing up in a creative family was brilliant as it was an almost unwritten rule that if you had nothing to do or you had spare time you ‘created,’ used your hands and made something. I count myself lucky for this because I certainly was never bored as a child. When I had children of my own I began scrapbooking as another creative outlet for myself, one that involved my family, too. I really haven’t looked back, I’ve learned so much from scrapbooking and made a lot of friends. Paper crafting is my all time favorite creative outlet. I love paper and I’m not afraid to say that it’s an addiction I’m happy to feed.
Favorite thing to create: My favorite thing to create would have to be garlands or banners for my studio, and of course keeping up with my Project Life. Documenting memories for the family is important.
What do you love about this hobby? I love scrapbooking because there are no rules to what you can create, it can be big or small, one photo or lots, and of course creating with pretty paper is always a plus.
5 Fun Facts about yourself:
1. I sing really loud in the car and my girls love it (just kidding, they hate it, I can’t sing).
2. I speak in baby language to my dog and I’m sure the neighbours think I’m crazy, but he’s just so darn cute I can’t help it.
3. I’m a neat freak, I have OCD. I can’t stand mess or too much clutter; everything has a place.
4. Back to the singing, growing up I wanted to be a rock star so bad… my sister and I would choreograph all our shows; ha ha – we thought we were great.
5. I used to perm my hair; yes, a 90’s girls here. The tragic thing is my fringe was straight; it was such a bad look.
Check out the stunning layout Karen made for this spotlight:
JOY by Karen Baker
Joy is getting ready to celebrate Christmas. I created this layout using white cardstock, a 4×6 journal card, and a strip of coordinating paper sewn across the bottom of the photo. I love adding tags to my layouts as it gives it that ‘note’ appearance.
And now here are four more stunning projects that are some of Karen’s favorites that she’s made:
PROJECT LIFE WEEK 35 by Karen Baker
This is a photo of my week 35 project life. I love using BIG embellishments and I try to stick to a maximum of three colors in a layout. I love the heart in this photo; I cut it into four pieces to get it to flow over four sleeves (yes, I closed my eyes and hoped for the best before I cut it up).
PARK by Karen Baker
A 12×12 traditional scrapbook layout using Studio Calico green chipboard letters. I love those letters, simple yet effective.
CUTE by Karen Baker
One of my favorite traditional layouts that I’ve created; I used my sewing machine to sew a circle and then layer with embellishments. I love it, and I love Amy Tangerine products, too.
STAY CURIOUS by Karen Baker
Using Maggie Holmes’ Wonder Collection was easy for this traditional scrapbook layout to come together and all within 15 minutes by following Jamie Waters’ class at Big Picture Classes. Layering with embellishments and photos and then sewing them up the middle is so easy and again looks effective.
Hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Karen better and seeing just a handful of her favorite projects!
