Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started crafting: I have been an artist as long as I can remember. It wasn’t until I stepped into a scrapbook store over seventeen years ago when I realized I could combine my love of mixed media with memory keeping! I have been creating with paper ever since.
Favorite thing to create: I can’t help but be creative. There was a time in my life that I stopped crafting. I started to do DIY before DIY was cool. I thought I could change light fixtures in our old home. I had pretty much removed all the light fixtures in all the bedrooms before I realized I wasn’t going to be able to fix them all before my husband came home and had to enlist my brother-in-law to help me get them in before dark. Since then, I leave the electrical stuff to professionals and stick to paper crafting! I love scrapbooking, mixed media, and making memories with the parties I throw for my family.
What do you love about this hobby? When I was in high school art class I was with like-minded people. When I started working, it was harder to find people who understood me. You’d think it would be easier to find creative people in my everyday whether at work, church, or even at my son’s school. It wasn’t until I connected myself online with other scrapbookers through blogs and social media I realized how much I really loved this hobby. Crafting can be so rewarding, but the connections are priceless. I create for my family (and sanity!) but what I love most about this hobby is the relationships I have found through it.
5 fun facts about yourself:
1. I am a twin. My sister started scrapbooking before me and introduced me to it.
2. I have a glitter-phobia. Believe me. It’s a real thing.
3. I love making up fun random parties for my kids. I probably got it from my mom who used to celebrate half birthdays and every Beatles’ birthday with cake.
4. I love being in the garden and get lots of inspiration when I am quietly digging in the flower beds.
5. I used to get in trouble for standing during art class in the 7th grade and then all through high school. As an adult, I found out that there are a lot of artists who need to stand while crafting. What about you? Do you stand or sit?
Here is Jen’s new and exclusive project she made for her spotlight!
FABULOUS by Jen Evans
Every birthday, I have my children sit with each other in the same way so that I can see how much they have grown. These end up being my favorite photos of the year. On this page I made sure to make the photos front and center.
Here are four more of Jen’s favorite projects – I love the diversity and different areas of crafting Jen dabbles in!
DONUT YOU WANT ONE LIGHTBOX by Jen Evans
I love to throw random parties for my kids. It is so much fun! I hope that they remember these fun moments of their childhood when they get older!
BIBLE JOURNALING PAGE by Jen Evans
I continue to remind myself that I was created to be creative! I love to take time out to create in worship with Bible journaling.
MIXED MEDIA PAGE by Jen Evans
As a mixed media artist, I am always pushing myself to try new things. With this page, I used the Heidi Swapp Minc Foiling Applicator to foil my page. It looks complicated but it literally took five minutes to make!
CARDS by Jen Evans
When I make cards I create at least three at a time so that I can have a few on hand for emergencies. These interactive ones are so fun! The die cut is by We R Memory Keepers and when you pull up on the bow the card pulls up the inside where a gift card can be added. Love that!
Thank you so much for stopping by today and getting to know Jen and checking out her amazing projects!
