Magic

Have you ever come across a template or a full 12 x 12 die cut and wondered how you could incorporate it into a layout?  What a great way to use up all of your favorite patterned papers.  This is one of those designs that can be adapted to fit any occasion, just by switching out the paper and sentiments.  This adorable layout was created with Authentique’s “Thrilling Collection” by Heather Conklin one of the inspiring designers for Authentique.

If you do not have enough paper pieces in your stash you can also coordinate your papers using a 6 x 6 pad.  This works amazing and you don’t have a lot of paper waste. In making the background for your layout determines what punches you have in your stash, what kind of die cut apparatus you have, or maybe even a stencil you may have on hand. This particular layout was made with a Silhouette using a “great circle background” that was a download.  This project can also be made with squares, hexagons, or any other shape.

Here is the paper after it has been cut.  This will take a while to cut because it is very intricate.  You can start to punch out your circles while it is cutting.

Take your paper you are going to use and start punching out your circles.

Don’t forget to use the fun vintage images. For these make sure you flip your punch over so that you can see exactly where it is being used.  It is fun to frame your favorite images.

Start gluing each circle.  This will take a while.  Liquid glue will work, but if you have a large-scale machine I suggest to use one if you have it.

Make sure you keep your images right side up. Try and keep your busy patterns so they are not right next to each other.  When you have it put all together the busy-ness of the total image will allow for imperfections.

Use a second piece of cardstock in the same color/tone that you are using for the background.  This will help keep your work from falling apart. A piece of kraft cardstock background was used, and a smaller piece of kraft paper was cut so that it fit within the edges of the outer ring of circles. If you glue down each row, none of the smaller punched pieces will pop off.  This makes the intricate pattern easier to place and move as an entire unit.

Once you complete your pattern and have glued down the circled paper, use dimensional adhesive to pop up the matted photograph.  Add a few embellishments to your layout.  Wow what a priceless design.  A big Thank You goes out to Heather Conklin for her wonderful design and inspiration.  Be sure to hop over to her blog Goldiecar Designs to get more of her amazing inspiration.
