Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started scrapbooking: Hi everyone, I’m Dana, a thirty-something born and raised in Germany. I’ve always loved pretty paper, stationary, and notebooks and kept all of my ticket stubs to make some use of them someday, but it was only in late 2008 that I first heard about scrapbooking. Accidentally, I stumbled upon a cardmaker’s blog and from there, the whole paper crafting world opened up to me on the internet. Somehow I also got a colleague hooked on the crafting thing and she found a nearby store to set us up with supplies. Only a few months later, I was all in with a shiny new blog and a good amount of stamps and tools around me. 🙂

Favorite thing to scrap: I rarely make layouts myself but rather enjoy making cards and mini albums. My favorite thing for cardmaking has to be tailoring something in a way the recipient will love while still staying true to my own style. As for mini albums, my favorite thing to scrap is short trips and travels.

What do you love about cardmaking? There are several reasons but I think “making something with my own hands” really has a lot to do with it. Most of the time I spend working at a computer or phone and while I can get lots done in a day, there’s hardly an immediate, visible outcome. In crafting, however, you have that instant gratification of seeing things come together in the moment.

5 fun facts about yourself:
1. I have two wrist watches but never wear them.
2. Larger spiders make me freeze.
3. I was in a water rescue training group when I was young but for the life of me I can’t crawl.
4. I’m a turtle crafter. Sometimes it takes me two days to decide a card is finished.
5. I’m a picky eater and I don’t eat food that looks “ugly” to me (yes, it’s ridiculous!).

For my exclusive Scrapbook Expo project I thought you’d enjoy some Easter card inspiration. I played with subtle watercolor sprinkles and a screen printing mask on the background.

WISHING YOU A HAPPILY EVER AFTER by Dana Fleckenstein

I find it a bit hard to define my own style but texture is at its core. Here I used different embossing plates to help make an otherwise simple design stand out.

Other things that I love are bold colors and dimension. For this card I challenged myself to use a Project Life card as the base, bound it with an eyelet, then topped it off with several stacked butterfly die cuts.

A LITTLE NOTE CARD by Dana Fleckenstein

If you’re anything like me, you keep way too many scraps on your craft table. This card is one that actually uses some of them together with some fun embellishments.

BOLIVIA MINI ALBUM by Dana Fleckenstein

I put this mini together for a workshop last year and love the outcome. There were tons of photos and I decided to just scrap my top three pictures in a cascading style for every major chapter of the journey. Again, lots of layers, color and texture in there.
