Freebie Friday – BasicGrey

Hello Lovely by Jen Walker for Weekly Scrapper

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Welcome to Freebie Friday! This week I enjoyed creating with brand new products from BasicGrey. When I received the Prism collection I instantly fell in love! Photos came to mind that would work wonderfully with the colours in this line. When I saw the pinks and the yellows I knew that I had to use a photo of my daughter in her yellow rain boots. I sure miss those days! I also worked with the Adrift collection. This collection is well suited to our family time spent at the lake and splashing around in the water. Included in this line is a set of vellum tape stickers that I really enjoyed working with.

Embrace The Little Things by Jen Walker

The Prism collection has lots of fun bits and pieces to work with. Once I decided which papers I was going to use to highlight my photo, I spent lots of time looking at each and every piece in the die cuts and transparencies pack, the chipboard shapes, and the printed kraft tags. There are so many options and they all coordinate with the papers so they layer very nicely.

Hello Lovely by Jen Walker for Weekly Scrapper

The second layout I created using the Prism collection is totally different simply by using a different colour set from the collection. My daughter is not a girly girl, so I don’t spend a lot of time with pinks, but this collection was just what I needed for this beautiful photo of her. The yellows and pinks are perfect for this photo. And again, I spent lots of time picking through the die cuts and transparencies pack, the chipboard shapes, and the printed kraft tags. I cut all the little squares from the patterned paper and then layered an embellishment onto each square. And the kraft tag is awesome! I was thrilled to receive the yellow twine. It goes perfectly!

TIP: When I was deciding what embellishments to place on each square, when I thought I liked it, I took a photo and then made a few more changes. I was then able to compare which setup I preferred. It also made it easy to take it all apart and put it back together once I had adhered all of the pieces.

Ahoy by Jen Walker

With the Adrift collection, I received the vellum tape stickers. When I saw these wonderful little stripes of fun, I knew that they would make the perfect background for a card. In my mind, the whale chipboard shape was meant to be placed on top of this background. Sweet! I can imagine floating in the ocean and a whale popping up to say “Ahoy!” Now that would be a fantastic adventure.

While I did not get a chance to create a layout with the Adrift collection, here is a favourite of mine by designer Lisa Dickinson.

Snorkle Squad by Lisa Dickinson

I will definitely be creating more layouts with these collections. I plan to use each and every scrap of the Prism collection to use up all those wonderful yellows, pinks, and blues. I so love them! I also plan to dig out the photos of my kids learning to water ski and will use the Adrift collection for those layouts.

I AM CONSTANTLY HOLDING ONTO AND SAVING LITTLE SENTIMENTAL MOMENTOS AND KEEPSAKES FROM JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT MY BOYS AND I HAVE DONE, EVERYTHING FROM THE BIG STUFF LIKE HOLIDAYS AND EVENTS TO THE VERY SMALL QUIET MOMENTS, LOL ITS KINDA FUNNY BUT WHEN I LOOK AROUND ME OR I AM IN A MOMENT I SEE A SCRAPBOOK PAGE OR IDEAS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, ART WORK, OR A CRAFT. I COLLECT MY LITTLE MOMENTS IN TIME AND WHEN I GET READY TO CREATE MY PRECIOUS KEEPSAKE I THINK ABOUT THE THEME AND HOW I WANT IT TO LOOK AND THEN PULL IDEAS FOR LAYOUTS, PAPERS, AND EMBELLISHMENTS FROM ALL DIFFERENT RESOURCES, I USED TO BUY ALL THE SCRAPBOOK AND PAPER CRAFT MAGAZINES AND LOOK ON SUPPLIER WEBSITES, BUT NOW I ALSO LOVE TO USE PINTEREST, FACEBOOK, AND INSTAGRAM FOR IDEAS AND INSPIRATION. MY LIFE IS MY TWO BOYS AND SCRAPBOOKING THEIR LIVES FOR THEM.

I LOVE the Adrift collection. As an addicted water bug (living in Colorado) and missing the beach, I can sea (pun intended) so many things to do with this collection. It is helping to bring back memories of warm sunny days spent on the water and at the shore already! My primary inspiration is the internet. I use the search engine “Bing” to look for specific layouts, either as themes or subjects. I have been a fan of K and Company and Basic Grey way before you all moved out of the Salt Mine offices. Keep up the good work!!!
