For this week’s Inspiration Station, I wanted to create some felt embellishments inspired by the felt flowers you can see on this completed layout:
The flowers I used on my project were stickers I found in my scrapbooking stash, but I loved them so much that I wanted to use them as inspiration for building my own embellishments. To create these flowers you will need: felt in the colors of your choosing, fabric scissors, thread, a needle, a button, and a glue gun.
Step 1: Handcut the layers. You could also use a manual die cut machine and die cuts for this part if you choose, but I liked the look of a hand-cut flower.
Step 2: Glue the items together. A little glue goes a long way. Leave a space in the center of the top flower piece so you can stitch the button through the layers. Too much glue in the center will gum up the needle and make it difficult to stitch together.
Step 3: Hand stitch the button to the top layer of the flower. Tie off the thread on the back of the embellishment.

Think of all the ways you could use this technique! How about layered stars? How about a cluster of multi-colored heart shapes? Felt comes in many different colors and even in different patterns. Use this “Inspiration Station” tutorial to start making your own embellishments!
