SCT Magazine Giveaway

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Hello and Happy Friday! Has Spring arrived where you are? The weather is trying really hard to be spring-like where I am, but Mother Nature isn’t sure she is ready to say goodbye to Winter yet. Honestly, though, I cannot wait to see little flowers popping up in the garden. I so love my garden!

With each season change, a new issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine releases. The Spring issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine went live today! This beautiful magazine is available in hardcopy from select retailers, including many Barnes & Noble, Books A Million and Chapter’s/Indigo stores! The Spring 2017 issue can be viewed online for free here: http://www.scrapbookandcards.com/current-issue

Freebie Friday – Creative Cards & CardMaps

SCT Magazine Card Special Issues Combo

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Hello and happy Friday! I hope you have had a wonderful week! This week I am here to inspire card makers AND try to convert papercrafters who don’t already make cards into becoming card makers. Doesn’t that sound like fun?

As a scrapbooker, you must be creative. You also likely have lots of scraps from creating layouts, so why not use those scraps to create cards. I think being a cardmaker and a scrapbooker is a perfect match!

In hopes of inspiring you, I am going to share cards that have been published in an issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine. These cards were created by the design team as well as from submissions to the magazine. Ready … Set … Let’s get inspired!

Freebie Friday – SCT Delivered Online Class

SCT Delivered Online Classes

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Happy Friday! This week I want to tell you about the new SCT Delivered Online Classes from our friends at Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine.

These classes have been cultivated by some of the industry’s favourite designers with the simple goal of offering you the opportunity to enhance your papercrafting skills in a self-paced environment. Each designer will contribute their creative talents to bring you a unique, one-of-a-kind class right to your computer.

Each six-week course includes:

  • easy to follow step-by-step instructions for 18 beautiful 12×12 layouts
  • exclusive PageMaps sketches
  • technique-driven step photos
  • electronic cutting files (.dxf and .svg formats*)
  • complete supply lists (including paper collections)
  • and so much more!

The inaugural class is based on the very popular Easy, Detailed, Expert article that appeared for 9 years in each issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine! All of the amazing content from these articles (and the full issues) is available for free download. You can view all of the past issues as well as the artwork for each article here.

sct online class

Each week of the course is instructed by a different designer who will share three layouts (Easy, Detailed and Expert) along with tips.

  • Week 1 – Virginia Nebel
  • Week 2 – Nicole Nowosad
  • Week 3 – Paige Evans
  • Week 4 – Lisa Dickinson
  • Week 5 – Sheri Reguly
  • Week 6 – Sarah Webb

With a group of designers like these ladies, I am sure you are inspired already, but wouldn’t it be great to see some sneak peeks as well. Of course! Here you go … here are a few sneak peeks for each week of the course. Wow! I can’t wait to join these ladies each week and get crafty!

How fun is that! You can take a class each week for six weeks from the comfort of your own home. The class is even self paced so you can do the classes at your leisure over weeks or even months. Another cool feature of the class is the private online Facebook group that you can participate in with fellow papercrafters who are also taking the class. Imagine having an entire cheering section to share your completed projects with, ask for suggestions from and just plain socialize over an activity that we all love!

Freebie Friday – Spellbinders

Spellbinders Wish card by Jen Walker

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Hello Scrapbook Expo Friends! I hope you are all having a wonderful week.

This week, I had the opportunity to work with Spellbinders‘ Party dies – Sweet Wish and Gift of Happiness.

Spellbinders Wish card by Jen Walker

For this card I die cut out the word ‘wish’ from the blue cardstock and also cut out the word in white cardstock. I then placed the white word into the negative in the blue.

Spellbinders Wish card by Jen Walker

For this card, I focused on the stars and hearts. I like having fun candles so I added the stars to the top of the candles instead of the flame. This card is not your typical candle and gift wrapped present. I like to think a bit outside the box and use the dies not quite as they were intended.

Isn’t it lovely?! I especially love the feel of this magazine in my hands. Personally, while there are so many opportunities to interact with books and magazines in a digital format, I am still one of those people who prefers the feel of the paper in my hands. I have piles of books and magazines all over my house. I love to flip through this magazine and I enjoy how nice and thick the paper is.

Scrapbook & Cards Today releases four issues a year to coincide with the change of seasons. Today, the fall 2015 issue was released. The magazine is available in local scrapbook stores or via subscription. It is also available for free viewing online or for free download. You can download the PDF for the entire magazine, you can download the magazine in four parts so that the file sizes are smaller, or you can download the PDF for a specific article. Whichever way you want the information, it is available for you. All back issues are also available for viewing online.

Hooray for Friday! My kids are finally both out of school and the pressure to make lunches and get them up in the mornings is over. Yay! I also like for them to have a chance to run around and have fun when it is so hot outside. So not only am I thrilled that it is Friday, but I am thrilled that summer vacation has begun.  You can see from this photo that my son is glad for the summer holidays as well.

For me, one of the ways that I know summer is here is that my copy of the new summer issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today arrives at my door. I absolutely love this magazine, and lucky me, I live around the corner from the publisher, Catherine Tachdjian, so I get my copy as soon as the magazine is back from the printers. I love the feel of this magazine in my hands and the nice thick cover and inside pages. I love the smell of the ink. This magazine makes me happy!

Freebie Friday – Scrapbook Expo Mystery Box

Mystery Box Giveaway

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Every week when I sit down to write this post, it makes me happy. “Why?” you ask. I am happy because I love to share giveaways with all of you AND it means that the weekend is almost here. How do you keep busy on your weekends? I spend my time running from one hockey rink to another, to singing rehearsals, and piano practices. I also like to take some time for myself. I enjoy spending time reading and creating scrapbooking layouts. How do you spend your weekends? Is it all about family time? Do you get time in to get your creative juices flowing?

I have the very special privilege of working with the Scrapbook Expo team. While I am not one of the smiling faces you will see every week at the various Expos, I am the person behind the scenes of Scrapbook Expo’s social media accounts. I enjoy finding projects to share with you on Facebook and Pinterest. I interact with you on Instagram and enjoy chatting on Twitter.

On Facebook, we now have a group for each Scrapbook Expo location. These groups are all about you, with me as your host. If you are interested in attending an event, are planning to attend an event, or have already attended an event, these groups are for you. In the groups you can find out more about the event, classes, hotel specials, promotions, workshops, and more. Are you looking to find a roommate? Do you want suggestions on where to eat? Would you like to meet some people before arriving at the crop? Ask your fellow attendees! Take a moment to share photos of your projects and your time at the show. We will also have some special giveaways and contests posted in the groups. These groups will also give you a place to find other scrapbookers who are located near you, to get advice on purchases, or to chat about anything and everything crafty!

Will you join me? Here are links to all of the locations. If you are participating in more than one Expo, or are thinking about it, jump in and join more than one group.

Have you been to an Expo before? There are so many amazing features of these events. One of my favourite parts of the events is the MEGA Make and Take Extravaganza. During this event, you will participate in exclusive Make & Take projects from top companies and learn about new products and techniques. With all of your project supplies, you will also receive full instructions for each and every MEGA Make & Take projects. This event is sure to become a favourite of yours as well!

Mystery Box Giveaway

The Mystery Box may contain a crop kit, a tool from the Latest & Greatest Cool Tools workshop, or the Latest & Greatest Collections workshop.
