Distress Inks Butterfly Card

Amanda really is the queen of beautiful details; you will be amazed how a few simple techniques can add such visual interest to your stamping projects. Be sure to check out the Youtube video – I’ve watched it several times and I’m still blown away by her skills. The best part is that they aren’t difficult techniques, it’s just things that I hadn’t thought of.  My favorite is removing some of the distress ink with a paint brush to give the illusion of depth. I’d like to send out a virtual hug to Amanda for being such an inspiration to her fellow paper crafters.

Fill your Life With Color by Amanda Southern

This one goes out to all of you amazingly talented stampers. I was blown away when I first discovered that this was a single layer card. All the depth and visual interest is created by shading, coloring, and a little imagination. I love the Zentangle influence without all the work. 😉 Amanda generously shares how she created this work of art on her blog That’s Blogging Crafty. I highly recommend stopping by for a little creative therapy. She really has some great tips and tricks to share.

See what can happen – I get new bath towels and also a fun beach accessory., If you’d like to give this fun project a try, click here and I will lead the way over to The Golden Adventures Of A Dark Horse Blog so you can follow along as Stella shows us just how easily this fun Sunbathing Companion comes together. So Thankful For You

This mixed media canvas on a layout really caught my eye.  One of my favorite designers is Stacy Cohen.  Stacy really has a gift when it comes to her layouts.  Her beautiful backgrounds often include a lot of fun techniques, along with wonderful embellishments.  I love how Stacy took some flowers that she had on hand and altered the color and look of them.  If you love to create with different techniques then you need to be sure and stop by That’s My Story and I’m Sticking To It blog.  You will be so inspired by her beautiful work.

So Thankful for You

Stacy added several splashes of color to her canvas.  She started with a swatch of burlap and some of her leftover patterned flowers and wood embellishments.

So Thankful for You

She then used some gesso with a paint brush and coated the burlap and the flowers.  The wood pieces she gave the a subtle white-wash.

 So Thankful for You

Stacy coated all the flowers completely, but she let a little of the natural color of the wood and burlap show through.

So Thankful for You

Once the gesso was dry, she sprayed the flowers with spray ink.  She sprayed them right over the painted burlap so that the burlap would also soak up the pretty colors.  The water-based spray ink beaded up on the gesso and resisted it a bit, but after a couple of coats of the spray ink she was able to get a nice color.  Make sure you let the gesso and spray ink dry in between coats.

So Thankful for You

Stacy added some smaller white roses that she spray-inked to match the rest of the bunch.  The spray ink on the plain white roses became more vibrant than it did on the gesso sprayed flowers.  It gave the flowers a mix of vibrant and more subtle hues.  For a little extra sparkle she coated a few of the flowers and some tiny white roses with glitter.

So Thankful for You

This is certainly a great way to alter some of those patterned flowers, chipboard, embellishments, alphabets, ect that don’t match your page elements, or you are just not in love with any more.  Her perfectly placed layers all came together flawlessly.  I would like to say Thank You to Stacy for sharing her talent with us.  She had truly inspired me once again.

Thank you for stopping by.  Hope your day is filled with lots of happiness!

Lovely

Here is another wonderful inspiration from a very talented lady. I always find such wonderful layouts made by Stacy Cohen.  She really makes scrapbooking look so easy and her designs are adorable.  I would like to say Thank You to Stacy for always allowing us to share your creative ideas. For more of her fabulous designs go to her blog That’s My Story and I’m Sticking To It.

Lovely

Stacy  is sharing how she made the layered pattern paper waves on her layout.

Lovely

1.  Cut a piece of cardstock that is the approximate size that you want your wavy paper block to be.  I cut mine to 7” wide because I wanted it to align with the edges of my 5” x 7” photo.  Use a flexible ruler if you have one.

Lovely

2.  Draw horizontal curvy lines from top to bottom.  Note:  You don’t need a flexible ruler to draw the curvy lines; you can easily freehand draw them.

Lovely

3.  Cut along the curvy lines.  These pieces will be your cutting templates.  It helps to number them so that you can choose the order of the patterned paper pieces to cut.

Lovely

4.  Use the wavy sections as templates to trace and cut the curvy sections from patterned paper.

Lovely

5.  Once you’ve traced and cut all the curvy sections, you can ink or stitch the edges, if desired.

Lovely

6.  Cut another piece of cardstock the same width as the first piece you cut and use it as the base for the wavy paper pieces.  Adhere the wavy paper pieces to the cardstock starting from top to bottom, slightly overlapping each piece.  Cut off any excess cardstock on the bottom.  You can always go back and add some more wavy layers if you want to make your paper block taller.

Lovely

After you adhere all your paper pieces down.  You will then add your photo and embellish with flowers, sentiments, and journaling.

Lovely

What a great way to use up your scraps.  Hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial.  Have a wonderful day crafting!

Butterflies

Spring is in the air.  When we think about spring what comes to mind is the sound of birds chirping, flowers starting to blossom, and seeing butterflies in the air.  What a wonderful way of getting that Spring feeling by creating a beautiful layout.   This outstanding layout was created by Stacy Cohen.  She is a wonderful crafter so be sure to jump on over to her blog That’s My Story and I’m Sticking To It.

Butterflies

Stacy used the paper “Love Note” from Crate Paper, along with a butterfly punch.  To create a ombre look she used both the positive and negative of the paper.  This created such a beautiful look.

Butterflies

Adding her photos to the lower portion of the layout created a feeling of the butterflies flying away.  Stacy then added a few more embellishments around the photos giving the layout just a little bit of color contrast.  In the bottom right corner she added strips of paper to write her journaling on.

My Love

What a beautiful way of displaying your favorite paper and still creating a fabulous layout.  Just by adding some fussy cut flowers, along with your paper flowers makes this such a beautiful and feminine page.  I love how the beautiful paper complements the photo making the photo stand out.  This fabulous layout was created by  Stacy Cohen.  She is so amazing with her creativity, so be sure and hop on over to That’s My Story and I’m Sticking To It to see more of her beautiful creations.

My Love

Stacy used her Mono Permanent Adhesive to adhere her photo, the paper strips, and her lace.  On the bottom edge of the paper strips she used foam tabs to give each layer some dimension.  She fussy cut the flowers and leaves from patterned paper.  Adding some foam tabs again for dimension she added the petals and leaves.

Stacy added a chipboard frame along with roses to the bottom of her photo.  For her title words “MY LOVE” she colored white chipboard alphas with a pink dual brush pen, then coated the letters with white glitter.  Such a gorgeous layout.  Again a Big Thank You to Stacy Cohen for her beautiful layout.
