Halloween & Fall are my absolute favorite times of the year to decorate & create for. How fun is this Steampunk-themed project using paper mache letters (BOO). I’d like to thank Jackie for sharing today’s inspiration piece. Be sure to stop by the Scraps Of Brilliance Blog any time you need a burst of inspiration. Jackie is truly a brilliant designer.
To achieve the metal effect she ran foil tape from the hardware store through the BigShot in the Riveted Metal texture fade. Then removed the backing and adhered to the paper mache, trimming to fit. We then painted all the letters with black acrylic paint, and blotted it when it was nearly dry to expose some of the metal underneath.
Jackie used her finger to rub in Inka-Gold paints to make a worn, rusted look. (In the pictures below you can see how the Inka-Gold covers most of the black but leaves enough showing through on the seams to give it dimension).
Time to embellish! Jackie took the chipboard gears & heat embossed them with Platinum UTEE, then cut them to fit the contour. and adhered them with hot glue. The bats are fussy cut from some Carta Bella paper and are adhered to thin gauge wire “springs” created from jewelry wire.
If you are as inspired by this fun Halloween project as I am, you can view the full step by step instructions for the “BOO” letters by clicking here.
My hope is to inspire you to be fearless when it comes to your creativity, to try new things and most important to have fun!
Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a very creative day.
