Birdcage Tealight Candleholder

Somewhere in your stash of supplies I’ll bet you will find a pair of Tim Holtz Box Feet.  If you are like myself I bought them because I thought they were really cute.  So often we stash these treasures away and don’t use them.  Today’s inspiration is a charming way to use these.  This outstanding Tealight Candle Holder was created by Helen Cryer.  She is a very talented lady so be sure to hop on over to her blog The Dining Room Drawers for more wonderful inspiration.

Birdcage Tea Light Candle Holder

To begin Helen cut out four birdcages and a square base.  She painted them first with Distress Paint, and Stains.  She then covered them with a mottled layer of Distress paints.

Helen used quick drying glue to join the edges, and then she painted in the edges which got missed.

The leaves were cut out with Sizzlits Branch with Leaves, then inked with more Distress Stains.  Diluting some stain, Helen sprayed water to color the Crinkle Ribbon, and the paper flowers.

The birds were cut from a die, and inked with Distress Stains.  She then coated in Ranger Crackle Accents for one, and Thick Embossing Powder for the other.

Adding a few hearts along with a sentiment Helen added them onto the birdcage.

Last of all add some flowers to the leaf vine to one corner of the birdcage, along with adding a paper banner strung at the top of one side.

Use a battery powered tea light candle inside.  To diffuse the light a bit you can put the tea light inside a tube of pale blue vellum.  A big Thank You goes out to Helen Cryer for this wonderful inspirational project.

Hope you have a wonderful day crafting!

It looks like the bird can be die cut separately from the cages, so the same die was used. Thanks for your question!

      • ann says:

I doubt it is the bird from the die as that bird is a LOT bigger – almost 1/2 the size of the cage. The birds on her cage are two different birds as well.
