Today’s inspiration is to show you a few details about hand stitching. It is amazing how beautiful your layout will turn out, and it is very relaxing as well. Susan Stringfellow, a wonderful design team member of Carta Bella, shares her darling layout of her nieces during story time.
Susan chose the gorgeous “Baby Mine Girl” collection along with coordinating chipboard stickers and decorative brads from Carta Bella. Susan added a ruffled border by cutting 1 x 6″ strips from the 6 x 6 paper pad. She pleated them and attached them around the perimeter of the base cardstock. The smaller scale print and smooth cardstock of that paper pad are better for making flatter pleats. She then added a 10 1/2″ square of ivory cardstock over the edge and machine straight stitched around the edge to flatten and secure the pleats.
Susan created a pocket from vellum to hold some of the sweet little nursery rhyme cards. These were cut from the patterned paper. A stitched border across the top holds the folded scalloped top down and provides a little extra embellishment. Below are a couple of photos to show how she went about creating the pocket. After stitching the pocket she machine stitched the sides and bottom of the pocket to finish it off.
To add to her title with the stitching, Susan punctured holes and added three cross stitches using the same embroidery floss. If you like the stitching look give it a try, you will love the end result. A special Thank You to Susan for sharing her layout and instructions of hand stitching with us.
