This mixed media canvas on a layout really caught my eye. One of my favorite designers is Stacy Cohen. Stacy really has a gift when it comes to her layouts. Her beautiful backgrounds often include a lot of fun techniques, along with wonderful embellishments. I love how Stacy took some flowers that she had on hand and altered the color and look of them. If you love to create with different techniques then you need to be sure and stop by That’s My Story and I’m Sticking To It blog. You will be so inspired by her beautiful work.
Stacy added several splashes of color to her canvas. She started with a swatch of burlap and some of her leftover patterned flowers and wood embellishments.
She then used some gesso with a paint brush and coated the burlap and the flowers. The wood pieces she gave the a subtle white-wash.
Stacy coated all the flowers completely, but she let a little of the natural color of the wood and burlap show through.
Once the gesso was dry, she sprayed the flowers with spray ink. She sprayed them right over the painted burlap so that the burlap would also soak up the pretty colors. The water-based spray ink beaded up on the gesso and resisted it a bit, but after a couple of coats of the spray ink she was able to get a nice color. Make sure you let the gesso and spray ink dry in between coats.
Stacy added some smaller white roses that she spray-inked to match the rest of the bunch. The spray ink on the plain white roses became more vibrant than it did on the gesso sprayed flowers. It gave the flowers a mix of vibrant and more subtle hues. For a little extra sparkle she coated a few of the flowers and some tiny white roses with glitter.
This is certainly a great way to alter some of those patterned flowers, chipboard, embellishments, alphabets, ect that don’t match your page elements, or you are just not in love with any more. Her perfectly placed layers all came together flawlessly. I would like to say Thank You to Stacy for sharing her talent with us. She had truly inspired me once again.
Thank you for stopping by. Hope your day is filled with lots of happiness!
