Altered Vintage Necklace Bust

This lovely vintage-inspired home décor piece started out with a lace collar that belonged to the designer’s grandmother and evolved into this beautiful and sentimental keepsake. I’d like to send out a big thank you to Vicki for sharing her heartfelt project with us. I highly recommend stopping by her blog at He” Artful Validation of Vicki – you’ll be glad you did.

The vintage lace collar is perfect as a base for this shabby chic burlap necklace bust that was just waiting to be altered. Vicki layered some floral pieces and jeweled trim around the collar and added a piece of patterned paper in the “V” to give the illusion of a dress.

The mini gold photo frame was antiqued using several colors of ink, keeping with the vintage look and feel. And to add a personal touch, the photo in the frame is of Vicki’s parents on their wedding day.

The choker was created using a string of pearl beads, hot glue, and a flower. (You just have to love a hot glue gun when working with mixed media or altered projects; it really helps hold those heavier embellishments in place with no waiting for the adhesive to dry.)

The floral cluster on the shoulder is made of both burlap and fabric flowers and the cute brass scissor charm was the perfect embellishment. The aqua bow was made using the Craft-Dee BowZ bow making tool.

I hope that you’ve been inspired to break out some of those treasured items and create your own sentimental keepsake.

Thanks for the visit and I wish you a very creative day.
