Welcome back to another cardmaking tutorial! Today I want to share some tips on adding hand stitching to your cards! A sentiment can be the perfect place to add a touch of hand stitching without having to spend too much time on it, creating a handmade, cozy, homespun feel to your project.
First, I stamped a background with the Note Niblets stamp set by Papertrey Ink. I used Orange Zest, Aqua Mist, Enchanted Evening, and New Leaf stamping inks to create little clusters of button flowers. The Quick Stitch Sentiments dies by Papertrey Ink work to cut the holes out to spell “love,” “hello,” “wish,” and “thanks.” I’ve used the “hello” die today and die cut the word from white cardstock with the Cuttlebug machine. If you don’t have these dies, you can print out a word from your computer, place it over your cardstock, and use a needle or paper piercer to punch holes in the cardstock along the word. The sentiment strip is about 1 1/2″ wide x 4 1/4″.
Using an aqua floss to coordinate with my card, I started stitching by bringing the needle up from the back of the cardstock strip on the “h.” I taped the end of the floss down onto the back to hold it tight. Then I hand stitched using a back stitch.
If you happen to run out of floss like I did here (since I didn’t cut the floss long enough to stitch the whole word) just tape the end down onto the back and start a new piece. No one will ever know!
When finished with the stitching, trim the floss and tape the end down on the back of the cardstock. I stamped a tag with Stitched With Love stamps and tied it onto my sentiment strip with orange floss. I used a staple to hold it on tight before attaching the finished piece to my card.
Here is the card. I just love the added dimension with the stitches!
This is another one I stitched previously with the same dies.
I hope that gives you some ideas for adding a little bit of stitched dimension to your next card!
