Family Love

Jan Hobbins one of the very talented designers on the Sizzix design team was gracious enough to share her beautiful vintage style layout with us. Jan sure had fun with the new Tim Holtz Frameworks dies &  the Sizzix Courtyard Frameworks die on this layout. I love how she used them in several different ways.

Family Love Shabby Chic Layout

Jan started out with a 5  1/2 x 6 piece of patterned paper (Tim Holtz Wallflower collection) & embossed it with Sizzix’s Tim Holtz Courtyard Texture Fade folder.  The paper was a little larger than the folder, but Jan just embossed as much as she could, then matched up the pattern and embossed the rest. Way to improvise Jan! I love how she created an ombre effect by starting out with a dark brown than medium brown distress paint & faded into a light green distress paint applying it lightly to the raised embossed areas.

As if this wasn’t already the perfect background Jan took it to another level by adding a thin coat of Tim Holtz clear Rock Candy crackle paint and let it dry.  Next she applied a medium brown paint into the paper & immediately wiped it with a baby wipe.  When you add a bit of pressure, the paint gets in the cracks, while removing it from the surface.  Using paint instead of ink for this part,  dulls the crackle finish, which was perfect for this project.  Talk about fine detail.

Using the Courtyard Frameworks die, Jan cut out three from thin chipboard three from patterned paper.  Adhere the patterned paper to the chipboard die cuts & inked the edges with brown ink.  On two of the frameworks pieces, she applied Ranger’s Distress Old Paper Antique Gold embossing powder randomly to the one side.

Nothing goes to waste on this layout Jan even used the inside diamond shapes that were left over from the frameworks die to add some visual interest to the background.
