Today we have a wonderful tutorial from Faber-Castell. If you have heard of Gelatos but have never used them, this is a great way to get started. Believe me, you will fall in love with these and wish you’d had them in your hands a long time ago. You can never have too many cards on hand to give to those you care about, and today you will finish with four beautiful cards that you can use for several different occasions.
Use Cotton Candy colored Gelato to color your mixed media paper for the background. Dip a paint brush in water and spread the Gelatos around, being sure to create brush strokes on the page.
Repeat, and layer the Blueberry, Boysenberry, and Grape Gelatos. Use the same brush technique as above, and be sure to dry in between the layers.
Cut into four equal rectangles (they should be 4 x 5 1/4″ each). This will create your card fronts.
Use stamps to add a few accents to the card fronts. Use the Double Scoop Licorice Gelatos to color onto your stamp. For two of the cards, stamp as is. For the other two, spritz a little water onto the stamp before stamping. This will give a different effect to each card.
Ink the edges of the card fronts and adhere card fronts to a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″card base. For each card, stamp and cut out a flower image.
For the first card, color the flower image with a wet paint brush, using the Grape Gelato. Use Double Scoop Licorice Gelato for the center. Dry, crinkle, and adhere the flower to your card. Add a handwritten sentiment and doodle lines to complete.
For the second card, create a wash with the Cotton Candy Gelato, mix it with some Whipped Spackle and color the flower, creating some dimension, texture, and color. For the center, add Whipped Spackle and color over with Black Licorice Gelato. Adhere it with a glue dot. Again, add a handwritten sentiment and doodles to complete.
For the third card, spread Glass Bead Glitter Gel over the flower image. For the center, add Glass Bead Glitter Gel and color over with Double Scoop Licorice Gelato. Adhere with a glue dot. Add a sentiment to complete the card.
For the final card, spread Glass Bead Glitter Gel over the flower image. Using a wet paint brush, rub over the top of a Boysenberry Gelato, and use to paint over the Glass Bead Glitter Gel to add some color. Color directly on top with a Boysenberry Gelato to create a deeper color. For the center, add Glass Bead Glitter Gel and color over with a Double Scoop Licorice Gelato. Curl up the edges of the flower and adhere with a glue dot. Once again, add a handwritten sentiment and a doodled heart to complete your card.
Now you’ve created four beautiful cards, along with learning a new technique! A big thank you goes to Tiare Smith for sharing this wonderful tutorial with us. I hope you enjoyed learning about Gelatos and that you are excited to give them a try.
Thank you for stopping by – I wish you a fun and enjoyable crafting day!
