Here I go again, back to my love of the quilted look on paper. Only this time, the quilt pattern was made with washi tape. How clever!
Roree Rumph is the talented creator of this project and design team member for October Afternoon. You can visit her blog here. But, on to this card! Roree found four patterns of Washi tape that worked really well together: Star Field and Red Mesh from the Daily Flash collection and Bowl of Cherries and Tea Towel from the Farm Girl collection.
To create this background, start out with some white cardstock. Put down the first tape, really anyway you want it. The nice thing about washi tape is that it is low tack – which basically means that you can move it easily. Roree used an exacto knife and ruler to cut the washi tape straight at the ends.
You’ll want to make an “L” shape to start your pattern.
Roree decided to make each piece of tape the same length, 1-3/4″. From there you continue the pattern, cutting the pieces as you go. If you are going to use this method, make sure your knife is nice and sharp, and don’t press too hard to cut the cardstock!
Here is the final background. I like how she went “off the page” at the edges to continue the pattern.
To finish the card, add some stitching and embellishments. Here are a couple close-ups.
Thanks so much Roree and October Afternoon for sharing this clever washi tape background idea.
I hope you were inspired to break out your washi tape. Have a wonderfully crafty day!
