Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started scrapbooking: Hi everyone! My name is Ashley Horton and my husband and I have three children ages 9, 7, and 5. I have been working as a SAHM mom for the past seven years and I am currently home schooling our children. Last year I opened an Etsy shop where I sell digital cut files that can be used with electronic die cut machines. And on top of all of that, I love playing with paper and pretty embellishments! I discovered scrapbooking about nine years ago when I was invited to a Creative Memories crop. Once I discovered the scrapbook department at Michael’s, I was completely hooked! Over the past nine years I have met so many creative ladies, had the chance to be published in several magazines, and I have designed for some amazing companies and challenge blogs. I am currently designing for American Crafts, Simple Stories, Hip Kit Club, and A Flair for Buttons. This year I am incorporating more watercolors and gelatos into my projects and I am really enjoying it. Along with creating, I also enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and cooking.

Favorite thing to scrap: I really love to scrapbook my children, family, and everyday moments.

What do you love about scrapbooking? I love putting a creative element along with our photos to tell a story. In the digital age a lot of photos go unprinted so I love that as a scrapbooker I am actively printing photos and preserving the memories for later generations. And I just can’t resist all of the amazing papers that are out there!!

5 fun facts about yourself:
1. I’ve never had a broken bone.
2. I would much rather have a salty snack than something sweet.
3. I am not a fan of birthday parties… don’t like cake or ice cream. I am the birthday grinch.
4. About 90% of the time I do not have a plan for my layouts when I start working on them. It kind of just comes to me in the process of working on the page.
5. And most importantly… I do not like for any of my food to touch… ever! No touchy!

Here is Ashley’s spotlight exclusive layout:

I thought it would be fun to play with cut files and gelatos on this layout. I cut the words from white cardstock and then added color using three different colored gelatos, blending them with a brush and water.

I love to pull colors from my photos and since orange is one of my favorite colors, this color scheme was a no brainer. Since the orange and yellow are such bright colors, I kept my color scheme simple by adding in touches of gray, black and white.

It’s always fun to step out of the box on your layout designs. I use square photos on about 90% of my layouts, but I wanted to create a circle design on this layout and I knew I wanted to use a round photo also.

Creating a monochromatic look is always a fun idea for a layout or project. I used kraft paper and embellishments from the Amy Tangerine Stitched collection for this layout and mixed in small touches of gray, black, and white for a little contrast.

I love to cut paper strips from patterned papers and I used these to create some color on my white cardstock background. I used some fab acrylic alphas from Pink Paislee for my title. They are easy peasy to adhere with machine stitching.

Hope you enjoyed getting to know Ashley a bit more – see you again next week with another fabulous scrapbooker!
