Freebie Friday – PHOTO PLAY PAPER – Dear Santa

Believe card by Jen Walker for Scrapbook Expo

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Sometimes life gets in the way and if you are like me, life is about living. No more. No less.  This post is called Freebie Friday, but this week life got in the way and so let’s call it Freebie Friday on Saturday!

I am very excited to share the new Dear Santa collection from PHOTO PLAY PAPER with you today.  I love the upcoming holiday season. I love the beautiful winter wonderland that will grace us very soon.  I love the magic of the season, the excitement and the giving behaviour that comes to life over the holidays.

The Dear Santa collection has beautiful patterns that are well coordinated.  I love all the wonderful stickers and pocket page style cards as well.  The first card I created takes advantage of all the wonderful patterned papers as well as the word sticker “BELIEVE” that sums up so much of how I feel about the holiday seasons.  I believe in magic. I believe in the excitement that fills a room.  I believe that there is good in the world and that we all need to share what we can.

Along with wanting to create lots of beautiful cards to send to my family and friends, I also enjoy creating fun decorations using patterned paper.  The Dear Santa collection has a number of wonderful red patterns that I love.  I decided to take advantage of all of these papers and create 3D paper stars to hang on the wall in my office.

Paper Stars by Jen Walker for Scrapbook Expo

These stars are very simple to make.  Depending on your supplies and how you prefer to create your projects, there are lots of different ways to create these stars.  I chose to use the folding and cutting with scissors technique.  Some people use their scoring board to score the creases for the stars and their paper trimmer to create the shape.  The papers in this collection are nice and thick and make it super easy for the stars to hang with nice crisp edges.

The next project I created is a small snowman to hang on the Christmas tree.  The snowman was created by cutting out two sets of circles, folding them and gluing them together to create a circle.  For the hat, I cut a strip of patterned paper about 1.5 inches high.  I then folded it the same as you would to create a paper chain of dolls.  I then cut the hat in one fold and duplicated it throughout the chain.  Next I glued the creases together to create a circular top hat.  I pulled a length of embroidery floss through the centre of the three pieces and stacked them.

As you can see, this collection is perfect for the holiday season!  I did not use many stickers in these projects, but wow, I cannot wait to use them on other projects.

Starting my Christmas cards, but I need some inspiration. This paper will help get me in the mood. Sitting here in Michigan on Thanksgiving Day with temperatures in the 50’s. Not exactly the weather to inspire making Christmas cards.

  51. Karen Nickens says:

I love the lovely papers for Christmas. I enjoy making cards and have scrap booking become interested in scrapbooking lately. My sister who lives in Florida (I am in MN) wants to teach me how to scrapbook via Skype. She is an avid scrapbooker, and if I don’t mind saying, she is so talented that her works should be displayed in a magazine or online. I can’t talk her into taking that step. Anyway, the Christmas paper would be a great start for me to make my first book. I would love to give the completed book to our parents filled with our Christmas memories from childhood to adults. Thank you for sharing your stunning work and allowing your followers to win such in awesome collection.
