Are you low on patterned paper, or are you a paper hoarder like me and don’t want to use up your favorite papers? Washi tapes resemble the patterns in papers and are so easy to use on cards! They add beautiful color and pattern to a design and are very inexpensive, not to mention they’re already sticky, so no adhesive needed! A little bit of washi goes a long way as well, so one roll lasts quite awhile.
On today’s card, I used two rows of the red striped washi tape in the background to draw the eye to the tag on the front of the card, which is my focal point. It adds color and draws attention to the center when placed right behind it.
I’ve also added a strip of plaid washi on the banner behind the tag to add color and pattern! The tag is cut with the Tag Sale #4 die by Papertrey Ink, then stamped with Season’s Greetings stamps and embossed with white embossing powder. I used a bit of white ink on my finger to rub over the design to create a “chalkboard” look to the tag.
To store my washi tapes, I simply have them organized by color on a thread holder that I found at a fabric supply store, along with my threads. I love seeing all of the color! (And after looking at these photos, I noticed I have room for more washi rolls – yay!)
Along with the threads and washi tapes, I have my embossing powders and stacks of colorful ribbon displayed on top of my CD stamp storage shelf. Color makes me happy!
I hope you’ll give washi tapes a try in place of patterned papers on your next greeting card!
Love this card Danielle! Pretty use of your washi tapes! 🙂
Danielle, gorgeous as ever! I have a bunch of washi tape just sitting there that never gets used, lol. Such a great idea, maybe I’ll actually get to use some. Thanks for sharing your uber talents and always inspiring.
Love how you’ve got the tapes stored on the spindles.
right now I have mine on paper towel rolls but the
are layering on each other and it’s hard to see.
Have to find one of these spindles and put it
to use.
thanks for sharing.
