Technique Spotlight with Paige Evans: Hand Stitching

Paige-technique-header

Hand stitching is one of my favorite techniques and has been for a couple years now – I can’t stop, won’t stop hand stitching on my pages 🙂 I LOVE the texture it adds and how it helps define the edges of patterned papers. Here are four layouts I’ve made recently incorporating hand stitching!

GATHER MEMORIES by Paige Evans

I made this layout for the Spring 2017 issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine featuring hand stitched flowers that I then filled in with watercoloring to help bring out the thread color.

4TH OF JULY by Paige Evans

This entire layout was inspired by a star die cut in the ephemera die cuts pack from the new Sweet Freedom collection by Pink Paislee. I enlarged the shape and created a focal element – and of course added hand stitching to each piece!

YOU ARE MY BRIGHT SIDE by Paige Evans

A little stitching can go a long way as seen on this layout – over strips of washi tape placed in a large “X” I added stitching to help define that border and create wedges for embellishing or leaving empty for contrast.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS by Paige Evans

On this layout I stitched color-on-color over the rainbow pieces and then hand stitched white-on-white around the cardstock clouds. I even added a bit of machine stitching to help keep the title in place permanently.

I hope you give hand stitching a try on your layouts – it’s always worth the extra effort!
