Vintage Jalopy Card using Sizzix & Tim Holtz products

Hi everyone! Today I’d like to share a Vintage Father’s Day Card / Gift Card Holder. Father’s Day is right around the corner so treat your Dad to a little gift card to his favorite place.

The Old Jalopy die from the Tim Holtz Alterations line is an old favorite of mine. I wanted something a little different so I made it a truck by cutting off the back windows, it can hold his Gift Card. Dad’s are often hard to buy for so Gift Cards are a great answer to the problem. With Word Play you can spell whatever you need to and The Cargo Stencil Number Set a Movers and Shapers Die the possibilities are endless.

Let’s die cut the Old Jalopy first from grunge board and a kraft tag. It’s ok to cut off the wheels of the kraft tag because we are going to cut only a small portion out to make it a woody.

Paint the grunge board Jalopy using Distress Crackle Paint in Peeled Paint or you Dad’s favorite color. Let dry.

Cut the back two windows out to create the truck. Cut a little irregular so it looks vintage.

Ink the truck with Vintage Photo Distress ink on an Ink Blending Tool. I also glued a little piece of mica to the windows. You could even put dear old Dad’s picture in the window.

Die cut the accents on the Old Jalopy die using Metal Foil Tape from Ranger. Paint with Fountain Pen dabber paint from the Jenni Bowlin line. Sand off some of the black paint.

Working on the Kraft Jalopy we are going to make wood panels for the side of our truck. Lay the floorboard accent onto the truck and trace with a pen.

Next trace where the wood panels would go. Just a little in from the edges and just a little up from the floorboard.

Cut out overall panel.

Stamp the woodgrain with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. With an ink blending tool add Vintage Photo and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. After you ink you can cut the panels the rest of the way. Now you will have three pieces.

I made a little hidden pocket to hold the gift card. I cut a scrap piece of cardstock 3 1/2″ x 1 3/4″, scored it using the dimension above and trimmed the corners out.

Make the pocket by folding on the score lines and glueing the tabs down as shown.

Glue the pocket to the back of the truck. Make sure it doesn’t show.

Here’s the Old Jalopy Truck on the front of the card. I adhered the wheels with redline tape and the top of the truck with double pop dots.

I die cut a background piece 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ to die cut.In your base tray line up the “No.1” from the new Movers and Shapers Cargo Stencil Number Set in the upper left corner. We will be using the negative image for our card.

Here’s how it die cut! Fun huh!

Use a paper Distressor on the edge. the edges with Distress ink on your Ink Blending tool.

Add a little hardware to the card. I think these corners from the Idea-ology line will be perfect.

Die cut “Dad” using the Word Play XL Alphabet die from red and black Kraft Core by Coredinations. Sand and ink your card which is 6″ x 6″ and the red and black letters.
