Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started scrapbooking: Hi there everyone. I’m happy to be here today. I was born and raised in the Lone Star State and still live here with my incredible family – 1 hubby, 2 daughters, 1 bonus son, and 2 rescue dogs. I remember scrapping my memories as far back as middle school but it was the birth of my first child and my desire to capture candid photos and stories for all my children that reignited my passion for scrapbooking. I consider my style to be Layered Chic, mixing, matching, and layering multiple patterns and colors in fun and unique ways. I currently design for American Crafts and Gossamer Blue kit club.
Favorite thing to scrap: The little details and daily adventures of my children. I seek out the small little details that capture the essence of whatever it is we are doing and I focus in on those photos and moments. I just can’t resist their cute little faces and the funny things they do.
What do you love about scrapbooking? I enjoy this hobby so much because it gives me a creative outlet while documenting my family’s lives. I also have met so many amazing people through scrapbooking, many of whom have become some of my best friends. And last but not least, it’s such a great reward to watch our children look through the albums and say, “Oh yeah” or “Remember when…”.
5 fun facts about yourself:
1. My hubby and I got engaged while on vacation in St. Lucia and got married on the beach three days later. 12 years and three kids later and we are stronger than ever!
2. I love a great adventure, from scuba diving in beautiful places (sometimes with free-roaming sharks) to playing in an enclosure with lion cubs to exciting roller coasters. I’m always up for a thrill.
3. My last name really is Leopard, like the cat. It’s definitely different but also pretty darn cool. And since I’ve been asked this a time or two before… no, it’s not a stage name.
4. I might just be a little obsessed with Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty. Rock on!
5. I am lucky enough to work at home for a global company that offers me tremendous flexibility but also allows me to travel to places around the world that I’ve always dreamed of visiting.
Here is the layout Heather made just for this spotlight:
I created this layout exclusively for this Scrapbook Expo Spotlight. My youngest daughter is just the sweetest little thing. I’m lucky to be her mommy because I get to hear things like, “You’re the best mommy ever,” and, “I love you in a million billion pieces” every single day. We always try to one up each other on our “love you more” meter so I thought it’d be fun to create a layout with some of our favorite sayings. To create the layout, I added all the shapes and words on the Silhouette mat on my computer. I placed everything where I wanted it, sized them up and down, and moved them around until I liked the overall design. Of course I left space for my photo. This made it super easy to make sure everything would fit once it was cut out. Then I just cut everything individually and recreated it on my page.
And here are four of Heather’s favorite layouts that show her signature style:
THE MORE YOU KNOW by Heather Leopard
I love this snapshot of my oldest reading Dr. Seuss to her little sister. I chose to document this using some library cards and a Dr. Seuss quote, which I featured prominently on the page next to the photo.
LUCKY IN LOVE by Heather Leopard
For this layout, I cut the same word in the same size out of multiple patterns. I added watercolor paint to the background in the same color as the word, repeating the process over the upper 2/3 of the page. This was like one very long title that I completed next to my photo.
ONE OF A KIND ADVENTURE by Heather Leopard
I was immediately drawn to this paper because of the fade out heart. I added gold embellishments to help bring out the gold in my photo. I love to stitch on my layouts so I machine stitched around the heart with gold thread. I also added layers of ephemera and added a title using different types of media. I actually started my title by including a sentiment that when read with the other title, can read as one title or two separate sentiments.
ROUND & ROUND by Heather Leopard
I had these photos of my daughter twirling in excitement so I thought it was only fitting to create a page that captured the motion. I cut three circles and stitched them over each other, adding the long title in the inner circle. I sprinkled a few embellishments around the page to complete the layout.
Hope you enjoyed getting to know Heather a bit more! Until next week!
