Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started crafting: Hello, everyone! I am so happy to be joining you on the Scrapbook Expo Weekly Scrapper blog today. I live in Leipzig, Germany with my husband and our son. I grew up in the former GDR and I’m really glad the wall came down because after it people were free to travel around the world if they wanted to. I jumped right in and spent a year in the USA (in Scarsdale south of New York City) from 1993 to 1994. I’m sure that contributed a lot to who I am now. Currently, I’m working as a research fellow at the University of Leipzig. When I’m not working, you can find me either spending time with my family, playing (beach) volleyball, reading a good book, or scrapbooking. I first started paper scrapbooking in October 2011. I started off with layouts and after a while I also fell for mini albums, cards, tags, decoration, and gift wrapping. I currently design for Gossamer Blue, Freckled Fawn, and the German stamp label Papierprojekt.

Favorite thing to create: Layouts, cards, mini albums, tags, gifts… I love them all ♥.

What do you love about scrapbooking/cardmaking? Scrapbooking has become a wonderful part of my life and I have met a lot of great people on my scrapbooking journey, for which I’m very thankful. I also like the immediate visible output of creating memories or nice paper things for my family, my friends, and for myself. I can create something with my own hands and it’s right there; I can look at it, I can touch it, and that just makes me incredibly happy.

5 fun facts about yourself:
1. I’ve been using the same shampoo brand for 20 years. My hair just doesn’t ‘work’ with other brands.
2. If I had the time (and received payment for it) I would play beach volleyball all day long.
3. I don’t like sketches. They make me nervous. I’ve only used sketches about five or six times in my life as a scrapbooker.
4. Before I go to bed, I play farm heroes on my smartphone until I run out of lives.
5. I believe in the existence of human guardian angels, because I’ve met at least two of them in the course of my life: one helped me on a busy street when I was 23, the other on a trip from Boston to New York City when I was 19.

For this blog post I created four cute tags. I like the small format and I also like to have something nice and handmade at hand to add as a final touch to a present or to use on birthday cards.

MUSEUM by Sandra Dietrich

This is one of my more recent layouts. I like the straightforward design with the two photos, the journaling, the stamped image, and the bright patterned paper, which I cut to different sizes to create a friendly and interesting background.

ALWAYS & FOREVER by Sandra Dietrich

This is one of my favorite layouts I’ve created so far. Not only because it’s about a special memory I want to keep, but I also like the simple and clean design, which allows focus on the moment captured in the photo. The title work is also quite interesting in that different elements are used here: a gold sticker, a wood chip ampersand, a stamped element, and finally some alphas I cut out from different paper.

JOURNALING COVER by Sandra Dietrich

I really like how the different embellishments came together on this journaling cover. I mixed some gold and black accents to go with the dusty pink journaling cover. I like to use doilies on my projects and the tassel also came in handy here.

SMILE MINI ALBUM by Sandra Dietrich

This is the most recent mini album I’ve created to keep some memories from our summer vacation and I’m sharing some of the pages here. You can find more images on my blog. The special thing about this mini is the wood veneer cover. I used my Crop-A-Dile to make a hole into the veneer, cut different paper to the size of the veneer, and secured everything with a binding ring. It’s so much fun to flip through the mini and see the photos and different embellishments I’ve used.

Such a pleasure to get to know you better, Sandra!
