Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started cardmaking: Hi, I’m Danielle Flanders, a former K-8 elementary teacher turned stay-at-home-mom to two girls, Taylor is now 15 and Kati is 9. I started scrapbooking when Taylor was born to create a baby book for her. Then when Kati was born, I dove back into it again and found online forums and people who loved scrapbooking as much as I did! I began to share my work and join design teams for scrapbooking manufacturers. Now as my girls get older, they don’t like their photos taken as much anymore, so cardmaking is a great way for me to still be creative with all of the fun products that are out there without worrying about photos and journaling! And I love sending happy mail to those special people in my life!

Favorite thing to scrap: I am more of a cardmaker now, but I still do love making scrapbook pages and mini albums here and there, mostly of my two girls and just the special little moments that I appreciate in our lives.

What do you love about cardmaking? There’s something so relaxing about working with paper, stamps and embellishments and just letting the creativity flow! I find it so rewarding! The end product of a scrapbook layout or a card is just a plus for me – a memory I can keep for my girls, or a special one-of-a-kind card to let someone know I am thinking of them.

5 fun facts about yourself:
1. I taught K-2 on an Indian Reservation in South Dakota and drove an hour each way to get there with four other teachers. It was such an amazing experience! Not easy, by any means, but very rewarding to get to influence those children’s lives. It taught me so much about life in general, and the whole experience and relationship I created with those kids who needed it tremendously really holds a special place in my heart.
2. Another degree I have is in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I have no formal art background. I was accepted to an art school, but didn’t go! (I wish I had, though!)
3. I’m soft-hearted, happy, positive, and a little bit on the shy side. Takes me a little while to let people in to my life. But once I get to know you, I’m a person who will do anything for you. I always try to see the best in life!
4. I think my signature style is soft, a little romantic and vintage, but still clean and modern.
5. My goals lately have been to stretch myself out of my comfort zone. I filmed an online class with Craftsy.com a few months ago, which you can see HERE and I and just recently filmed a segment with 9News here in Denver about cardmaking! I admit both of these experiences were way out of my comfort zone, but I realize these growing pains are so good for me – I decided not to let fear decide my fate!

Here is the card Danielle made for her feature, and it’s so stunning:

Thanks for all you do card2-750px

THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO by Danielle Flanders

This card was fun to make! I love the clean, modern feel and bold contrast mixed with a little bit of a vintage feel. Layering the different stamped and vellum leaves creates such dimension, and then a little bit of sparkle finishes it off with one more little detail that captures the eye!

And these are just a few of Danielle’s favorite creations:

Luxe card set

LUXE CARD SET by Danielle Flanders

I’m a font addict and love the hand-scripted look of these stamps on cards! Combined with polka dots, the black and gold color combination really makes for a timeless look. I stamped and embossed the gold dots and of course couldn’t forget to adorn the envelopes. It was an easy card set to make in multiple sets for gifts.

Hello June Memories1-4

HELLO JUNE by Danielle Flanders

Some of my very favorite projects this year were created with stamping, even on scrapbook layouts, and I love how they can add so much to a page, allowing you to create your own patterns in colors that work for your photos. I love layers and little bits of color and pattern, which I tried to infuse here with stamping, chipboard, cardstock, and little bits of washi tape. This page was all about the journaling of all the things we did in June together as a family.

Hellocards

HELLO CARDS by Danielle Flanders

These cards were made just recently. The backgrounds were created with embossing folders and dies, both of which are some of my favorite products to add dimension to my cards. Also, the stamped layers create dimension without too much bulk. A little pop of color against the clean neutral backgrounds really makes me happy!

Thankful1-2

THANKFUL MINI ALBUM

This “Thankful” mini album was one of my favorite projects from the past year. I added some watercoloring to the front, gold embossing powder, washi tape, and a die cut word in a pretty font… just love how it all came together! Mini albums are a great way to add lots of layers. As a cardmaker, I enjoy working with the smaller palette of mini album pages. Each page is like a card to me.

The flowers on this card are die cut and stamped. I tried a unique color combo here and I really like how the colors turned out together!

You have such a beautiful and pleasing style, Danielle – thanks for letting me feature you!
