Creating Cards from Scraps

Hello!  Jennie McGarvey back with you here today to talk about a topic I think a lot about, paper scraps!

What do you do with your scraps when you’re done with them?  Likely you save them, but do you use them? A while back I found that I was always saving them but not actually putting them to use.  I made a change to use the scraps right when I was finished creating a scrapbook layout.  Supplies still out, I try and make cards with what is left!

I had created a page using the Keep It Simple collection, Celebrate the Little Things and I was no where done with the supplies. I absolutely love everything about this collection and wanted to make sure I used the scraps!

It’s awesome when you have a wide variety of pieces available.  Not only did I have the patterned paper, but I also had ephemera, as well.  I could create so many different things thanks to those supplies.

I don’t even know where to begin here!  I’m so in love with the florals and that lovely pink that is included in this collection. I’m just glad I had some of both leftover to add to this card! Thanks to that I have two cards to send to celebrate the special people in my life.

Next time you do a bit of memory keeping don’t file those scraps away for another day!  Start a card with what is out on your desk.  You’ll get to use your beloved supplies and create something special to give, too.

So glad it was helpful! It’s one of my favorite things to do – I love getting all of the use out of the pretty papers!

I love saving my scraps. I made many of my Christmas cards from cardstock strips last year. It was a blast!

I just started organizing my supplies and have sorted my scraps by color/theme and only keep 3 x 3 sizes or larger. That way when I need a little something, I can go straight to the scraps and utilize them first instead of cutting a new piece of paper.

I always stock pile my scraps and rarely use them. What a great idea to start a project with them right away! Thanks for the inspiration!

I have my scraps filed according to colors in a portable file. I keep all kinds of sizes of paper. I use them in cards and have made scrapbook pages just using scraps. It’s fun using them again and remembering what they were used for previously.

I have a scrap box I keep under my desk. Weather it’s patterned paper, cut out strips of card stock or stamped paper, it always feels good to reach for the box and find some inspiration in there.

Great ideas! Thank you for sharing. I’m going to switch up how I handle card stock scraps – it makes total sense to use them right away.

Great idea. I keep the solids but not the patterned papers. I’m changing it up now. I need to learn to be more imaginative in my paper matching. Thank you for the article.

I have done paper piecing of images before using my scraps, but not creating a whole card with them. What an idea. Thank you for sharing.

At every layout class, I have always said “Make a card of two with the scraps every time you do a layout.”
