Calligraphy is all the rage in stationery, and I love that it’s making its way to card making as well! A few stamp companies are getting in on that trend with their pretty stamp sets. For today’s post, I used Calligraphy Classics by Papertrey Ink for the sentiments, along with a watercoloring technique that I will show you. I love the classic look to these! I hope they will inspire you to create something pretty today!
- First, I stamped a sentiment in a variety of pink colors. I dipped the stamp in Lovely Lady and Raspberry Fizz inks and stamped it onto my watercolor paper. It’s ok if it doesn’t stamp perfectly on the watercolor paper! (It most likely won’t, because the paper is bumpier than regular cardstock.)
2. Next, with a slightly wet paintbrush, I drew over the the word with a bit of pink watercolor on my brush, not much, just a little, mixed with water. It looks blurry and not very pretty at this point, but don’t worry! We are going to make it look great!
3. After the sentiment was completely dry, I stamped over it again in red stamping ink, slightly off-setting the word, so you could see the pink underneath.
4. I also used teal and a little bit of gray and black mixed in to create my own leaves. The flowers were stamped with Paper Clippings: Thinking of You stamps in a light pink ink, then I added more color over the top myself with a dark pink watercolor. After it was dry, I added a bit more color with some red in the centers of the flowers.
I love how the sentiment is nice and neat, but still has that watercolored look underneath!
I had so much fun with it, I had to make another one to go with it, “Just Because”. The shadow effect is so neat, isn’t it? All done with a stamp!
The envelopes were splashed with gray mist. I can’t wait to make more sets of these in a variety of colors!
It’s so much fun to combine several of my loves into one card: stamping, watercoloring, drawing and painting. If you don’t prefer to draw, you could stamp the leaves with a stamp set and then add water over the top of them to make them look more “painted”. Have a great day, everyone!
