Craft Room Organization

Unless you watch YouTube craft room tours, it is hard to know what other craft rooms look like.  While I am at the crops at Stamp and Scrapbook Expo, I always walk around in amazement at the portable crop organization that I see.  It is no easy task to pack up everything you have at home and bring it with you to the crop.  You all know our wonderful Michelle who works at the crops.  I am going to take you on a little behind-the-scenes tour of her fabulous craft space. (It sure helps when you are a photographer and your friend has a photo-worthy craft space!)  Are you ready to be amazed at how everyday storage solutions can be functional and fabulous?

Organizing your embellishments into their own containers will save you so much time looking for the perfect item!  Having your products in one central location in your craft room will not only look appealing but also just might spark some creativity within you.  I could just stare at this view forever.

Let’s say you want to organize all of your little items but you don’t have space in your room that allows for height.  Normally you would think that jars are out of the question because you don’t have a high enough shelf clearance for them.  Don’t get discouraged!  Take a look at this organizer that would slide under almost anything and needs barely a 2-inch clearance.  I would suggest looking at thrift stores for unique storage solutions and you may be surprised at what you find.

One place where you can find solutions for your home craft space is in the kitchen department at any store.  We all like a well-organized kitchen.  Just think to yourself… can that flour or sugar organizer work for my glitter?  You betcha! Give it a try and think outside of the box.

If you don’t have tabletop storage, look up!  Use those walls.  This is probably some fancy shelving, but to me, it seems like rain gutter spray-painted would do the job just as well.  By moving up along the wall it allows your table to be free of clutter.  Just think what else you could store on the wall!

If your craft room is tucked away in a part of the house no one can see, clear jars work perfectly.  You can see what is in every container for more efficiency.  But let’s just say for a minute that your craft space is in the family room of your house and your husband does not want to see colorful pompoms everywhere.  You can line the glass jars with fabric or paper and conceal the contents.  By doing this they would be disguised and look uniform no matter where your craft supplies are.

All of your clear containers do not have to be the same size.  Take a look at this picture and all the different sizes that are represented.  Do you organize by color in this same way?

Have we given you some craft room organization inspiration?  I sure hope so!  We want to see where you craft at home.  It could be on your kitchen table, in your converted garage, or in a corner of your bedroom. The point is that it doesn’t matter where you craft, as long as you are happy crafting!

See you at the Stamp and Scrapbook Expo Crop!

Love this craft space. I have a craft shed with citrus colors on the walls, shelves and tables. I hang peg boards on my walls so I can hang my tools and small buckets for my pens, crochet hooks, etc. I also have one wall of shelves where I keep all my yarn coordinated by color. It’s well organized and beautiful to look at.

  2. LESLIE RAMSEY says:

Lovely room. Living in our 23 foot trailer until we buy our home, I love the storage ideas. I will get my Dream Craft Room in our new home. So storage ideas are at the top of my list.8

  3. Lynne Buland says:

I always start out with the best of intentions but the mess just grows. Sometimes I can hear supplies hiding in the middle of the night.

  4. Kristi McAlister says:

I am in the process of “re organizing “ and these are great ideas. Can’t wait to put some embellishments in a spice rack hung on the wall. Thanks for the inspiration!!

  5. Rhonda says:

I am working on reorganizing my craft room – always love to see new ideas. Corner molding mounted on the wall also works well for wood mounted stamps!

  6. Debi says:

Good ideas. We always need to think outside of the box for storage solutions. If items are not readily available to use, then we probably won’t use them. Love the above craft room. Don’t we all wish we could have on tha size!

  7. Jean says:

Always looking for ideas to store craft items. Since it seems to grow by leaps and bounds, just when you think you have everything you could use, there is always something new that you can’t live without. Thanks for the ideas.

  8. LaCinda Hansen says:

Love the ideas, now it’s getting me inspired, much mote fun to do our crafts when it is organized and easy to find your supplies ? I received a piece of the organizer paper cubes, or Christmas can’t wait to organize it!

  9. Teresa says:

Glad to see I’m on the right track. I added shelves to a DVD media shelf and it works great for my punches, ink pads, glitter glues,…etc. I have also used the modular boxes to design two work areas. I always like seeing other craft rooms for inspiration.

  10. Jan Gundrum says:

Beautiful room. Not all of us are lucky enough to have that size room for just crafting, but this sure is a place you could get lost in for hours.

  11. Jane says:

My craft room is 9×12 and organize in many clever ways. The problem is I have more supplies than will fit in 9×12. It’s spilling out into the hall and a lot in the dining room. Nothing will help me except a larger room and that’s not going to happen. I would be glad to share but I do not know any crafters near me.

  12. lisabeth Baker says:

Small room at back of house. Sofa and table for crafting . I do have a few organizers to keep supplies in place

  13. Valerie Breingan says:

  14. Kim says:

Amazing! I use lots of thrift store containers & random cases(like what used to hold pushpins). I’ rather spend $$ on items than on what to put them in. Definately worth the time& energy to keep things Organized to stay less frustrated & more creative! Thanks for the great pictures & ideas!

I want to meet that room organizer. I have just started to clean out and purge stuff in my room.. Found things I never knew I had!

  18. Alicia Gabbard says:

That is a beautiful crafting room. My desk is my crafting space for now, but I dream of my own crafting room-my own slice of heaven-one day. Those organizing tips are awesome, I especially like the idea of using spaces normally overlooked…looking up.

  19. Kimee Moore says:

Love the ideas, especially the rain gutter idea. Who knew something so simple and inexpensive could solve the problem of wooden stamp storage. Very cool! Also wish I had your storage room! Maybe some day………….

  20. Deena Havens says:

I hope when my craft room is finished that I can feel proud to show it off like this one. I love the pink! But I will be using lavender. For me it is very relaxing.

  21. Pak K Ingram says:

I like the space for sure. I started out with Ikea shelving and used a table they sold in the kitchen area, it was very wide and long. I use jars and sectional boxes for small things, and over the door organizers for cricut cartridges and odds and ends, but I still find that when I’m creating, I can’t find things I want when needed. More space? Or less stuff? Not sure of the correct answer. Your room is beautiful.

  22. Janis Graham says:

This is a really cheery room and I really enjoy looking at it, but I can’t help wondering how expensive all of the cabinetry is …? I love the idea of clear jars to collect odds and ends, but live in earthquake country so are plastic versions of these jars available?

  23. Traci Starkweather says:

What great ideas! I’m going to ask for shelves to be set in my craft room (former bedroom) for my birthday…and maybe have them put up for my Christmas gift! What measurement do you suggest for how wide a shelf (not for paper) should be, please? I hope someone will be able to answer. Thank you!

  24. Janet Bischof-Rosario says:

Love all the ideas for containers that can be used in any size space. The glass containers DO inspire me to design a card! Its fun to find all kinds of glass containers at Salvation Army or garage sales.

  25. Lynne H. says:

Ok, so maybe it’s just me, but the jumble of stamps would drive me crazy. I don’t like the way mine are stored, but at least they are indexed so I know where to find what I’m looking for. How do you find anything like that?

  26. Patricia Clinker says:

My craft room is very small, but I can see I need to rethink how I am organizing my supplies. This is a beautiful room!!

I wish I had a room to be designated as my craft room! Love the room in the photo! I’m very jealous!!!

Got my craft room when the last kid went off to college….took me about a year to realize that my craft style required open wire baskets so that I could see my supplies…

  32. Annie C says:

I wish I have such a big craft room! Always love organizing ideas for inspiration to adapt for my own stuff!!

  33. Sally Morton says:

Love how the feel-good colors shine through in glass containers. Most of my embellishments are in drawers or a Home Depot organizer for nails and such. It works, but not so colorful. Time to incorporate some of your wonderful, colorful ideas!

  34. Judy Estrada says:

  36. Dawn Becker says:

Boy would I like to get my craft room turned crap room organized !! It’s making me nuts. Love the room you showed. Have lots of wood mounted stamps that I would like to get up on the wall out of the way. Have so much stuff, some you only use once in a while. More ideas please!!

I’m just redoing my room. Hubby built 4 new cabinets and put in another 8′ counter top with a shelf below. You’ve given me some creative ideas for my “little items”. Also found a great stamp holder at Goodwill recently. Keep your eyes open for storage ideas.

  44. Jill Young says:

A place for everything and everything in its place! A delight for this OCD card maker!! I started with glass jars for my silk & paper flowers sorted by color, then coordinated my button collection with household jars and a Pinterest lid idea. The shelf looks great, now if I could only get my husband out of the rest of the office! Lol!!

  45. Pat says:

Love this craft room! Everything has it’s place. Would love to know how many crafters besides me wind up buying stuff AGAIN ’cause they can’t FIND the other one!?!? Lol!

  46. Ali says:

Wish my craft room looked like that – my is very small – less than 8 x 10 so not much room to squish stuff in!!!

  47. Lisa Tubbs says:

Gorgeous room with wonderful natural light! As I’m studying and admiring each corner of the room, I have only one suggestion. That blank white side of the island is begging for either a blackboard, or a festive word scramble decal… or something. Maybe you should have a contest for ideas?!

  48. Lori kelly says:

I also have a room that is pink and it’s my scrapbook room and I need a bigger one. I just love the storage ideas.

  60. SHIRLEY MUMMAH says:

Beautiful room. My space is 8×10 and my washer/dryer shares the space. No much you can do with space to make it look like that. Oh well, Someone else room looks a lot worst then mind. I at least have a room that I don’t have to put away when I’m done scrapping. I’m thankful for that.

  61. Sandra Aguilera says:

Since I became an empty nester, I have a room all to myself and I love it. Recently my husband redesigned the room for more square footage with a pocket door. You wouldn’t think but it made a big difference for me.
