Sundays With Lorraine

Hello, my crafty friends and welcome back to Weekly Scrapper! Since you’re here that must mean that you’re ready for today’s creative therapy, so grab your favorite drink and let’s get started.

Brilliant Shaker Set Layouts By Nicole Nowosad

Shaker cards are currently all the rage, so I thought you might be inspired to take those shaker elements to the next level and use them on your scrapbook layouts. I instantly fell in love with these adorable layouts that I discovered on Queen & Co’s Blog and knew I had to share the love.

Now that your creative mind is spinning with all the wonderful ways you can use shaker elements, click here and I’d be happy to escort you over to Queen & Co’s site so you can check out all the amazing treasures they have to offer. Be prepared to be amazed; their toppings are definitely candy for the eyes.  Everything coordinates perfectly and their shaker cards and elements are as easy as 1,2,3 – pop, fill and cover. While you’re in the neighborhood, check out the camera kit, it’s so stinkin’ adorable. You’re going to love em all.

Hello There By Barbara Andrews

Barbara had me at heat embossing and water coloring, I love this technique – it’s a very showy look and makes it oh-so-easy to create stunning backgrounds. I was also inspired by how the sentiment was created. Barbara heat embossed the “Hello” on vellum then die cut the word “there” out of black cardstock and adhered it to the vellum after adding some rolled up silk thread for added interest. Way to go, Barbara!  Thanks for being such a constant inspiration to your fellow paper crafters.

Bright bold colors have always been a challenge for me, I’m more a shabby chic/vintage kind of girl, but I do love a good challenge. Challenges that force us to step outside of our comfort zone are a great way to enhance our creativity. If we don’t play with our toys and step outside the box we will never know what we are capable of. For more detail on how this festive card came together, click here and I will take you over to Barbara’s blog Paper Pursuits so you can follow along.

How to Make a Tray from a Frame

There is something magical about creating something beautiful out of an item that most people see as trash. Many crafters possess the gift of seeing the beauty of what could be and thrive on the creative challenge of transforming it into something functional as well as beautiful. I fell in love with this shabby chic tray made from an old (and I must say pretty ugly) picture frame,  I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this tray if I discovered it at an antique store or craft fair. Making it for next to nothing really spoke to me and I hope it inspires you as well.

One person trash is another crafter’s treasure! If you don’t happen to have a frame or two laying around the house you can check out your local thrift stores or garage sales for inexpensive frames. Sometimes the hunt is as fun as creating the project. Have fun, my crafty friends!

Balsamic Chicken With Roasted Veggies

Are you looking for an easy, delicious and healthy dinner to cook tonight? (Who isn’t, right?)  You are going to love this chicken recipe that I discovered on one of my favorite food blogs Skinny Taste. This recipe is definitely lighter on calories yet big on flavor. For all you Weight Watcher fans, you’ll be happy to know this recipe counts as 8 points and has a mere 401 calories. Not to scare you, but summer is right around the corner and that means buying a new bathing suit. I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to go there yet! Hugs to Gina for taking the guess work out of eating healthier.

I know it’s hard to believe but with a little help from our friend Gina, you can have this yummy dinner on the table in about half an hour. Gina truly is a master in the kitchen and has proven that it doesn’t have to be painful to eat healthier.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderfully creative week ahead of you. See you next Sunday or if you happen to be in the Puyallup, WA  area next weekend (June 2nd & 3rd) I’ll be at the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo and would love to meet you in person. I’ll meet you at the Creativity Center and we can create something beautiful together. Hugs to all!.

Digital Scrapbook Layout by Marla Thrall

Digital scrapbooking is a form of scrapbooking that is done using a personal computer, digital or scanned photos, and computer graphics software. For many of us seasoned scrappers digital scrapbooking was a little hard to swallow at first. My only concern was what would happen to all the treasured supplies that I have been collecting for the last 15 years!? Not to worry, there is room for both; I call it going hybrid. It is totally fine to have some traditional scrapbook layouts mixed in with your digital layouts. Remember there are no rules, just have fun with your art!

Digital scrapbooking can be a beautiful thing as you can see by this adorable layout designed by the very talented Marla Thrall. Whether you are a seasoned professional with computer graphic skills or are just getting your feet wet, I highly recommend spending some quality time with Maria as she shares how quick and easy it is to create the perfect digital scrapbook layout.

Hello Friend By Lynn Put

One of my favorite types of cards to make are friendship cards. Growing up in New York and then moving to California as an adult, I appreciate the importance of keeping in touch across the miles. What better way to let those special friends in your life know how important they are to you than to send a handmade card, right?

I hope you’ve been inspired to break out your favorite watercolors and create something beautiful. On this sweet card, Lynn used Distress Inks to create the gorgeous backgrounds, but feel free to use what you have on hand. For a complete supply list click here and I’ll escort you over to The Queens Scene Blog so you can check out how easily this heartfelt card came together. Keep up the great job you’re doing by sharing those smiles one handmade card at a time.

Butterfly Gift Card Box By Marjie Kemper

With gift cards being available everywhere, they have quickly become one of my go-to gifts, but I sometimes harbor a bit of guilt – that it wasn’t personal enough. A handcrafted gift card holder like this one adds that personal touch back into the gift so in my world that erases the guilt. 😉 Who wouldn’t love to see their favorite store gift card peeking out of this adorable gift card box handcrafted by you. Maybe it’s me, but I don’t have any problem walking into my favorite store and picking out exactly what I want with my gift card, do you?

Marjie paired Eileen’s Hulls Recipe Box die with Tim Holtz’s Detailed Butterflies die to create this custom gift card holder.  These are wonderful to have on hand whenever you need a gift card holder, they also make great party favors, a place to house your business cards etc. Click here and I will be honored to take you over to Eileen’s blog so you can follow along as Marjie shares how this darling project was created.

30-Minute Caprese Chicken Recipe By Heidi

It’s that time again when everyone is asking what’s for dinner but not to worry, I have your back on this one. I discovered this easy to make Chicken Caprese Recipe on one of my go-to food blogs Foodie Crush and knew I had to share the love. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make this tasty, one-pan chicken breast dinner in under 30 minutes.

Big hugs to Heidi for sharing this delicious Caprese Chicken recipe! Click here and I’ll take a stroll with you over to her blog Foodie Crush so you can print out the recipe. You all know how I love to share those amazing recipes that can be on the table in under an hour, and with a little help from our culinary genius Heidi – you too can have this dinner serve in about 1/2 an hour. You Are My Sunshine

Sundays-with-Lorraine

Hello, my artsy friends, welcome to the weekend! Sundays were meant to be relaxing, so sit back, enjoy, and let those creative juices flow!

Sister Selfies designed by Missy Whidden

It all started with a simple sketch and a few selfies. This sketch is definitely a keeper and one that you will use time and time again. I just love how Missy used the film strips to ground the fun black & white photos while creating a unique one-of-a-kind background using Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink and a few stencils.

Sister Selfies by Missy Whidden

This bright and cheerful layout just makes me smile! I hope you’ve been inspired to use this sketch and design a layout with you as the main focus. As scrapbookers we don’t include ourselves in our scrapbooks as often as we should; after all, we are an important part of the journey, too.

Sister Selfies

If you don’t include yourself in your scrapbooks, you are not alone. I must confess I can count on one hand how many layouts I’ve done about myself and I’ve been a scrapper for over 16 years (ouch). In my defense, I am usually the one taking the pictures so there aren’t many photos to choose from. And you also have the fact that we tend to be a bit more selective before we stick down a picture of ourselves, which again leaves a very small selection to choose from. Am I right? So live on the wild side! Take a few selfies and then have fun creating a layout that highlights YOU. Remember, be yourself and let the real you shine. Happy scrappin’!

You Are My Sunshine designed by Dawn Woleslagle

Who wouldn’t feel the love that was sprinkled throughout this handmade treasure? This beauty is sure to deliver a bit of sunshine to that special person even on the cloudiest of days. I love the fact that even though there are multiple layers and lots of fine detail, you can still send it through good old-fashioned snail mail. We all know there is nothing like going to the mail box and discovering a handmade card. Make someone’s day and mail out one of your handmade cards!

You Are My Sunshine

I highly recommend stopping by the Simon Says Stamp Blog and checking out all the great tips and techniques that Dawn used when creating this adorable card. There’s even a great step-by-step video by Dawn herself that you don’t want to miss. At the risk of being referred to as an enabler 😉 I have to share that this too-cute stamp set titled Sending Sunshine is only $5.99! I know, your probably thinking “get out”! Since that’s so inexpensive I’m thinking that means we can also have the matching die Sunshine Layers Die at $25.99. Sounds like one of those “need it in your life” sets to me! Keep up the good work spreading those happy thoughts one handmade treasure at a time.

Hello Friend designed by Mona Pendleton

What first caught my eye when I discovered this shabby chic treasure were the soft warm colors combined with the vintage look and feel. I love using the technique of heat embossing (which acts as a resist), then coloring or inking over the heat embossed image. On this project Mona used Tim Holz Victorian Velvet Distress Ink but you can also use many different coloring mediums – my two newest favorites are Faber Castell Gelatos & Ken Oliver’s Color Burst.

Hello Friend By Mona Pendleton

I hope you’ve been inspired to break out your VersaMark, a heat gun, stamp set and your favorite coloring mediums and give this technique a try. You will love the end result. Be sure to stop by and visit with Mona on her blog Cupcakes Creations for complete instructions on recreating this adorable card.

Summer and watermelon go together like peanut butter & jelly- they’re perfect when paired together. The blend of fresh watermelon and the fresh-squeezed lemons makes for a super tasty and refreshing beverage for your next BBQ.

Sundays-with-Lorraine

Hello, again, my artsy friends; welcome to the weekend! I’m happy to see that you’ve found some time to get crafty. Sit back, relax, and enjoy today’s inspiration.

Always Say I Love You

Let’s start out with this sweet layout designed by the very talented Riikka Kovasin. I fell in love with the mixed media influenced background, the subtle textures and colors, and how they complement this adorable photo. What a perfect example of how to included the artsy mixed media style without overpowering your precious photos.

I hope that you’ve been inspired to incorporate some mixed media techniques on your next scrapbook layout; the two are a match made in heaven. Happy scrapping!

Life Is Better With Friends

Have you gone digital yet? This beautiful friendship card was designed by  using a Gerbera Daisies digital image. I must confess, I haven’t yet taken the plunge into digi stamping, but after seeing this adorable card I think I need to dive in and give it a try.

Life Is Better With Friends

I love how you have the ability to resize your images to exactly what you need; the possibilities are endless! I hope this sweet card has inspired you to give digital stamping a try. Not to worry; there will always be room for all our treasured traditional stamp sets.

Multi-Step Lilac Stamping: Friends

Would you believe that the gorgeous coloring and shading was done by stamping and not coloring? Debbie used the JustRite Multi-Step Lilac Bouquet clear stamps to create the beautiful floral images. Who knew you could get such depth using nothing but stamps and your ink pads?

Multi-Step Lilac Stamping: Friends

At the risk of being labeled an enabler, I think we all need to give this multi-step stamping a try, don’t you? To make it a bit easier for you, just click here and I will take you over to the JustRite site so you can check out all their must-have stamp sets. And here is a link to some step-by-step techniques for using the multi-step stamping technique, found on the JustRite blog. Think of the possibilities – gorgeous; fast and easy, ya gotta love it!

DIY Magnetic Frame

Doesn’t it make you smile when you can walk into your craft room and come out with a beautiful home décor piece? Would you believe that this adorable magnetic frame, designed by Michele Boyer, started out as a plain wood frame?

DIY Magnetic Frame

By creating a frame with a thin metal background, it’s easy to change your photos and magnets as often as you’d like. I’m loving this; my Mom lives in New York and I’m in California so I’m always sending out photos. Now she can change them out whenever she wants!

Slow Cooker Cashew Chicken

For many years I thought of my slow cooker as something I only used in the winter for my stews, chilis, and soups. But when you think about it, it’s really great for the summer as well because who wants to heat up the oven when its 90 degrees outside?

Slow Cooker Cashew Chicken

Now you can enjoy this amazing Cashew Chicken without ever leaving your nice, cool air-conditioned house. I’d like to send out a big hug to Alyssa from The Recipe Critic blog for perfecting this amazing dish. Bon Appetit!

Thanks for spending a bit of your Sunday with me; have a great week and I will see you next weekend.

Sundays-with-Lorraine

Hello, my artsy friends! I hope all is well in your world and that you’re ready to relax and enjoy some sweet inspiration. I have some fun projects to share that include cardmaking, stamping, scrapping, and even a delicious tropical-themed dinner that you and your family will love.

Purrfect Fur Baby Layout By Anita Bownds

Our furry friends are  a special part of our lives so I think it’s important to include them in our scrapbooking. It’s no secret that I am a huge animal lover, so this sweet layout really inspired me to create a special album of all our pets, whether they are furry or not.

Dogs Leave Paw Prints On Our Hearts by Michelle Grant

Dogs Leave Paw Prints On Our Hearts

I hope these layouts inspired you to break out those special pictures of your furry family and give them a place of honor in your scrapbooks, or maybe even a book of their own. If you’re like me, I have 100’s of pictures of my pets; I just need to get them off my phone and over to Costco for printing. Happy scrappin’!

Lots Of Love To Mum by Lucy Abrams

Mothers Day is right around the corner and no one deserves a more heartfelt card than your MUM. I fell in love with this sweet card that I discovered on Lucy’s Cards. It’s so feminine without being overly frilly. I’m sorry to do this to you, but I think the Simon Says Tea For Three dies are another one of those “needs.” 🙂

Lots Of Love Mum

2

Lucy chose some Mind Mind’s Eye patterned paper to create the tower of pretty china teacups then added the die cut word and a stamped sentiment; so sweet! I think your Mum will love it.

Long Distance Friendship Card By Anna Wight

Being a New York to California transplant, this card really hit closed to home. I have many friends that live long distance and this adorable card really motivated me to send out several cards, letting those I love know just how special they are to me.

Long Distance Friendship Card

Anna used the Stephanie Ackerman’s Houses Die and the “Love At Home” Whipper Snapper Designs Cling Mount Stamp. I hope that you’ve been inspired to send one of your handmade treasures to someone special today.

Mini Recipe Box by Hilary Kanwischer

Mini albums are one of my favorite things to design – the sky’s the limit! There are no rules, so just have fun preserving those priceless photos, or in this case, your treasured family recipes.

Mini-recipe-box

How cute would this album be when you include your favorite family recipes and a photo of the special person who shared it. We all have our signature dishes/recipes that we pass down so why not scrap them? 😉 Hilary used the Sizzix Mini Recipe Box from the Where Women Cook collection.

Jerk Shrimp Tacos With Pineapple Salsa, Slaw and Pina Colada Crema

In celebration of warmer days, I thought you might enjoy this tropical themed dinner. The combo of spicy jerk shrimp, sweet pineapple salsa, crunchy cabbage, and the creamy pina colada crema in these tacos is absolutely amazing!

I’m ready for a taste of summer, how about you? Click here and I will take you over to Closet Cooking where Kevin has a printable recipe all ready for you along with some mouth-watering photos. Bon Appetit!

Thanks for spending a bit of your Sunday with me. Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you back soon.

Call Me

This heartfelt card is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. How perfect to send to a friend that needs to feel a hug in the mail.  I’d like to send out a huge thanks to Michele Boyer author of The Paper Cuts Blog for sharing today’s inspiration piece. Be sure to stop by anytime you need a burst of inspiration.

Call Me By Michele Boyer

The  Stamping Bella image & sentiment were stamped onto a panel of X-Press It Blending Cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Would you believe all this cuteness and Michelle only used a couple of Copic Markers on her robe, with greys for the phone & a light brown for her coffee. Michele’s card is a perfect example of the expression “Less Is More”.

3

She was layered atop patterned paper from Lily Bee Designs’ Sweet Shoppe, cut to fit a White Cardstock base.  The corners were rounded using a Corner Chomper. This one is going on the recipient’s fridge as a happy reminder that she has you as a BFF. 🙂

Thanks for the visit, I hope you’ve been inspired to break out your favorite stamp set, markers and have fun creating your next work of art.
