Freebie Friday – Spellbinders

Spellbinders Wish card by Jen Walker

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Hello Scrapbook Expo Friends! I hope you are all having a wonderful week.

This week, I had the opportunity to work with Spellbinders‘ Party dies – Sweet Wish and Gift of Happiness.

Spellbinders Wish card by Jen Walker

For this card I die cut out the word ‘wish’ from the blue cardstock and also cut out the word in white cardstock. I then placed the white word into the negative in the blue.

Spellbinders Wish card by Jen Walker

For this card, I focused on the stars and hearts. I like having fun candles so I added the stars to the top of the candles instead of the flame. This card is not your typical candle and gift wrapped present. I like to think a bit outside the box and use the dies not quite as they were intended.

Freebie Friday – Scrapbook Expo Merchandise

SBE Tote Bag

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Happy Friday, Scrapbook Expo friends!

As a member of the Scrapbook Expo team, I will be attending the show in Schaumburg, IL next weekend. While I am there I will be taking lots of photos and short video clips so I can share a bit more of my Expo experience with you. I am very excited to be able to attend the show, as I actually live in Canada so I don’t have a regular chance to go to the shows. My distance from the Expos gave me an idea. When I was planning out the giveaway for this week, I wanted to bring a little bit of the Expo to someone who may not regularly get a chance to attend a show in person.

This week we are giving away Scrapbook Expo merchandise including a Scrapbook Expo Junkie t-shirt, a tote bag and a 2015 Scrapbook Expo keepsake button. Hooray!

Freebie Friday – Graphic 45

Graphic 45 Double Tri Fold Shutter card by Jen Walker

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Happy Friday, everyone! This week I had the pleasure of creating with Graphic 45’s Rare Oddities collection. I am not trying to rush summer away, but this collection makes me want to start decorating for Halloween right now!

The Graphic 45 papers are super fun to work with. Their collections are full of beautiful patterns as well as images. I LOVE paisleys and the Rare Oddities patterned papers are full of them. WooHoo!

I decided that I wanted to created a project that would highlight the collection. I chose to create a double tri-fold shutter card. For this card, I created two tri-fold shutter cards and folded them in reverse to each other so that I could attach them in the center. If you are not familiar with tri-fold shutter cards, there are lots of templates available to get you started. Here is a view from above once I had scored, cut, and folded the cards.

Double tri fold shutter card

I am not going to be sending this ‘card’ to someone, so instead of using the standard 5 1/2 inch height, I created it at 6 inches. The full length when not folded is 24 inches.

Graphic 45 Double Tri Fold Shutter card by Jen Walker

You can see that this style of card gives you plenty of space for adding papers and embellishments. I used one of the 4 x 6″ cards to join the two tri-fold cards together.

Graphic 45 Double Tri Fold Shutter card by Jen Walker

When folded up, this card could be tossed in the mail and sent to a friend. You would likely have to create your own custom envelope or choose a slightly larger one than you would usually use for a standard card.

Graphic 45 Double Tri Fold Shutter card by Jen Walker

Here is the completed card!

Graphic 45 Double Tri Fold Shutter card by Jen Walker

I also took advantage of the Ephemera cards in this collection to create a quick card. I love it when you can grab a card and frame it with additional patterned paper and cardstock to create a quick and easy, yet still beautiful, card.

Wow! I sure had a lot of fun creating this project to share with you. If you have not tried creating a tri-fold shutter card before, I hope you will step outside your comfort zone and try one.

Freebie Friday – Stampin’ Up!

Stampin Up Tulip card

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Hello, Scrapbook Expo Friends! I hope you are having a fabulous Friday! I have had a fabulous week. My family and I celebrated Canada Day on Wednesday by attending a BBQ with my husband’s company. It is always a fun day to get together with friends and family and enjoy yummy food. We are so blessed! For our friends in the USA, I wish you a very happy 4th of July filled with the love of your family and friends.

This week, I was lucky to have a chance to work with the Project Life by Stampin’ Up product line. The ‘Love Story‘ collection is a beautiful black and white collection of 100 cards in 3 different sizes. It also has an accessory pack with complementary foil cards, alphabet sticker sheets, element sticker sheets, sequins, and washi tape.  I also received the Owl Builder Punch and I have lots of fun ideas for using this punch. Oh, and don’t forget the album. I absolutely LOVE the black faux leather album. These albums are a favourite of mine for sure!

Stampin Up Love Story

When I started looking through the cards, I initially thought I would focus on my wedding photos. As I read more and more of the sentiments on the cards as well as looked at the various patterns, I realized that the collection could be used for lots of other photos showing love. It would even be great to use the cards with a series of black and white photos.

I chose to start off by creating a page about the love between my husband and I. We are high school sweethearts and as I looked through my photo albums, I realized just how many formal photos we have from our early years together. Instead of creating a layout for each occasion, I combined photos from a bunch of the events. (I apologize for the glare on the photos. It is a challenge to photograph images in the page protectors.)

Stampin Up Jen Loves Jeff

My next page featured a trip that my husband and I took when we were dating. He had never been to the Rocky Mountains before, so when my grandfather fell ill and I planned to fly across the country to visit him, I brought Jeff along. Not only would I get the opportunity to visit with my grandfather, but I was able to introduce two of my favourite men to each other. After we visited with my grandfather, we set off on an adventure. We drove and hiked and every time I saw a waterfall no matter how small, we stopped to take a photo. I went home from that trip with almost 500 photos, mostly of the scenery. My love of waterfalls lead us to Johnston Canyon where we hiked alongside the flowing water. It was an amazing experience. After we got home, Jeff told me that if he had had a ring with him, he would have proposed.

Stampin Up You and Me

You can see on this layout that I added the ‘forever’ sticker to the You and Me card. I love the font they used on their stickers.  I also modified the 4×6 tie the knot card by cutting it in half to fit in two 3×4 slots.

Next up, comes the wedding. Can you see that I am slowing walking you through the love in my life! After dating for 7 years, Jeff and I were married.

Stampin Up Wedding

I really enjoyed using the Love Story cards. There are so many options that I could have used for each page. I did, however, decide to take advantage of the pockets and fill them with more photos than cards.

My next page highlights my kids the year my son was born. I love them with every ounce of my soul. The Love Story cards were also perfect for the love between a parent and child.

Stampin Up Kids

For this layout, I cut out the white ‘Happiness’ and heart stickers and spritzed them with colour. It turned out beautifully. Given that the stickers are all white, you could modify any of them to suit your page, and again, I love that font!

Do you ever do paper piecings? I had originally planned to create a bride and groom using the Stampin’ Up! Owl Builder punch but after creating all these pages about love, I decided to go another direction. With the sun shining bright and the kids splashing in the pool outside my window, I decided to create some flowers. The owl punch is a fantastic punch as there are tons of different items you can create with it. I used the owl body and chopped off the feet to create tulips. I then ran my watercolour pencil along the edges to create a bit of a shadow.

Stampin Up Tulip card

How fun! Just remember when you look at your tools that you need to keep your mind wide open as when you use your imagination, your tools end up serving many more purposes!

Freebie Friday – Perfect Paper Crafting

Perfect Portfolio Lap Colouring

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Happy Friday, everyone! This has been a wonderful short week me. I love holiday weekends and the chance to visit with family who don’t live nearby. We all had a wonderful time.

This week I get to share with you a fabulous new tool from Perfect Paper Crafting. A little over a month ago they announced their ‘Perfect Portfolio‘ and let me tell you, it is pretty close to being perfect!  And the colour, I love it! The purple cloth fabric makes me smile!

Perfect Portfolio

When I first went to open up the portfolio and started playing with it, I was super impressed with the quality of the magnets. When they say it is magnetic, they are serious! This portfolio has a series of magnets that helps it stay shut tight to hold your projects in for transporting. There are magnets in the top portion of the portfolio that make it seem like a clip board but without any metal pieces to damage your projects. The magnets even help to hold your pen to the portfolio when you place it in your bag. Although I only received one portfolio, so I cannot tell you that I have tried this myself, the video also shows how the magnets help you to keep multiple portfolios together which is a fabulous concept as well.

So how exactly does the Perfect Portfolio work and what is it going to help you with?  Before I show you how I used it, here is a video from our friends at Perfect Paper Crafting.

Isn’t that cool? I have not had the Perfect Portfolio for long, but in the short time I have had it, I have found lots of ways to use it during the day.  Here are a few of the ways I used it.

Perfect Portfolio Project

Sometimes when I am working at my desk, I like to see my projects held up instead of flat on my desk. I was recently working on a few project life pages so I hung up the page protectors and set up the Perfect Portfolio like an easel. This allowed me to easily see the pockets I was filling and a number of the photos I was considering using on those pages. This easel feature is very cool!

Perfect Portfolio Card

This image shows that you can hang your card from the strong magnetic top and work on them while they hang from the easel. I liked that my card was not sliding around my desk as it made it easier to attach the tiny little die cut pieces for the Cute Fruits faces.

Perfect Portfolio Lap Colouring

This last image shows the way I used the Perfect Portfolio the most. I really enjoyed being able to have something strong and sturdy on my lap while I was colouring my stamped images. It allowed me to work at the desk, on the couch, at the hockey rink, and even the rehearsal hall. The Perfect Portfolio slipped nicely into my purse and held my current project tight while keeping it clean. I pulled it out whenever I had a few spare moments to colour.

Freebie Friday – Sizzix

Sizzix Birthday Card by Jen Walker for Scrapbook Expo

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Happy Friday Everyone! Today is a very exciting day in our house for two reasons. The first reason is because it is a long weekend here in Canada and I am taking off all three days! Yay! The second reason I am excited is because my sister and her family will be in town visiting. It is always a ton of fun to get to hang out with my sister and our kids have a wonderful time together as well.  Bring on the family time!

This week’s projects were created using Sizzix products. I had a blast using their amazing products.

Sizzix Products

Over the last month I have needed birthday cards for both my niece and my dad’s birthdays so the Happy Birthday Step-Ups, the Banners and the Flowers and Dots set were perfect! I really enjoyed using the Big Shot (and the precision base plate) for both die cutting and embossing. Love it and the pink cutting pads! Oh, and that book .. ‘Sizzix Idea Book – Upcycle with Sizzix‘ has so many wonderful ideas. I took a photo of one of my favourite ideas from the book. These ‘Game On’ gift boxes are fabulous. I have a few board games that I would love to use for this type of project.

Upcycle with Sizzix Project

I started off by creating the birthday step-up card. I decided to make this card all about the birthday wishes and the presents.

Sizzix Birthday Card by Jen Walker for Scrapbook Expo

The next card I created is a simple birthday card with a fun pink cupcake.

The next card was created using the banner #2 dies. There are so many occasions where you would use a banner to celebrate. The sentiment comes from the Happy Birthday Step-Ups set.

The last card I created used the Flowers and Dots set by Stephanie Barnard. I absolutely love the skinny embossing folders. I chose to use the flowers folder along the top and then emboss the sentiment and a stamped flower below.

Freebie Friday – My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things Shaker Card by Jen Walker

Hello Scrapbook Expo friends! We are back today with another great giveaway from one of our friends. This week, I had the pleasure of working with stamps and dies from My Favorite Things. I really enjoy working with clear stamps that have coordinating dies. These coordinated sets make it much easier to cut out the small characters that are so fun to work with.  For these projects, I worked with the Birdie Brown You Gnome Me stamps and dies, Pure Innocence Heart Bouquet stamps and dies as well as the Die-namics Blueprints 23 set.

My Favorite Things

I started off by die cutting a series of items on white cardstock and stamping their coordinating images onto the cut shapes.

My Favorite Things Blank Images

I then used my blendable colored pencils to colour a series of images. I always colour more than I am going to use so I can see how the different colours affect how the characters will look on the white and/or coloured cardstock base. It also means I have lots of images for later as well 🙂

My Favorite Things Extra Images

On this first card, I used the large rectangle panel to mount the image and sentiment. I really like how the rectangle has the appearance of stitching on both the top and bottom edges.

My Favorite Things Flowers in Boot by Jen Walker

On this next card, I added a few enamels dots to the coloured images to add a little bit of dimension to the card. hehe … I love this sentiment … “You Gnome Me So Well.”

Mt Favorite Things Gnome Card

For this last card, I created a shaker card.  I started by cutting the navy cardstock piece to the full size for mounting on the card base and then used the rectangle panel die to create the opening space.  I adhered a single red heart on to the heart bouquet that the little girl is holding. I then filled the shaker space with matching foil hearts. The sentiment was stamped using a rainbow stamp pad and is raised on foam dots above the clear acetate piece of the shaker.

My Favorite Things Shaker Card by Jen Walker

This last project includes a few project life style cards. Given that I have been filling my albums with a combination of both 12×12 layouts and pocket pages, I often create 2×3 and 4×6 project life style cards that I can use later.

As soon as I saw the Birdie Brown stamps, they reminded me of moments with my kids when they were small. The card on the left reminds me of my daughter when she was small. She loved to wear orange and used to pick flowers from our garden and bring little bouquets to me all the time. I can’t wait to find one of her photos to use with this card!

My Favorite Things Project Life Style Cards by Jen Walker

So there you have it. Wasn’t that fun! I am a new fan of the Birdie Brown and Pure Innocence collections.
