Textural Embellishments

Today I thought I’d share a card made with some fun textural embellishments, like felt and burlap! Different textures can be added to your cards to give them dimension and add an unexpected and delightful design element.

On this card, I have used a die collection called Lovely Layers by Papertrey Ink to cut out the flower, leaves, and the white petals behind the square sticker with different Papertrey Ink felt colors. You can cut felt with dies and a manual die cutting machine like a Cuttlebug, if you buy wool felt. Wool felt is much denser than regular felt and won’t fall apart when put through a manual die cutting machine. The die is placed right over the felt in the stack and put through your machine just like you would with a piece of cardstock.

Here I have cut a piece of dark paper for the background to set off the journaling card, then I added a square sticker. Before sticking it down, I added the white felt petals in the corners. I stamped “for you” on the bottom.

The little burlap strips are just pulled off a piece of burlap. It reminded me of a little nest, so I used a hot glue gun to adhere it under the flower. I wish I would have thought of adding a little bird to the nest! I hope this inspires you to think of your cardmaking or crafting supplies differently. Have fun creating!

Always so pretty Danielle! I love all the different elements. It does remind me of a nest, you can always stick a little birdie on there before mailing it out.
