Freebie Friday – Stampendous

Rainbow Dot Card by Jen Walker

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful week. This week has been a busy one for my household and the weekend will keep me on my toes as well, but in a good way. My daughter sings in a chorus and they have been recording a number of broadway show tunes for a CD they are producing. They have already completed a number of hours of recording time in a studio. Tomorrow they will be recording in downtown Toronto at the CBC building. It is very exciting! Each recording is a new experience and makes it seem more real. It also gets us one step closer to getting to hear her sing on a CD. We are super excited!

This week, I had a blast getting my fingers all messy and inky as I created with products from Stampendous. My daughter and I even went to a broadway production last night, and I had two blue fingers. Oops!  Anyways, I really enjoyed using the products so a few blue fingers were okay.

I started off with using both the Embossing Paste and the Translucent Embossing Paste. I wanted to see how the two different pastes would appear on similar projects. I absolutely love the look that the Graduated Dot Stencil produces. It was also my first time using the Dreamweaver Paste Spreader. I really enjoyed having a spreader with a large width. The wide spreader made it much easier to get a nice clean spread of the paste over the stencil.

Stampendous Embossing Pastes

The image on the left uses the Embossing Paste and the one on the right uses the Translucent Embossing Paste. They are both great to work with, but my favourite of the two is the translucent embossing paste. It provides a neat glossy type appearance for the colour to adhere to. I created a rainbow type blank card with each paste.

On this card, after the embossing paste had dried, I put the stencil back on top and dabbed the colour onto the paste through the stencil.

For this next card, after the translucent embossing paste was dry, I dabbed the colour across the entire card. It is difficult to see in the photo below, but the dots do have a glossy look to them, whereas the colour on the card above is very flat.

Stampendous stamps are either Perfectly Clear Stamps such as the Seaside Chair set I used on this card, or Cling Rubber Stamps such as Fran’s Pen Pattern Flutter stamp (butterfly) that I used on the card below. Both stamp types are used with a clear block, the difference being that you can see through the Perfectly Clear Stamps.

To create the flock of butterflies without the images overlapping on top of each other, I masked off the butterfly beside each new one I was going to stamp. On this card, I also used the Versamark ink with Stampendous Kaleidoscope embossing powder to add some sparkle to the butterflies wings. The blue butterfly also has a full image of embossed ink on it as well. The Kaleidoscope embossing powder leaves a very cool reflection like colouring to the wings to bring more attention to certain layers of the completed card. It was hard to make this show in the photo, but you can at least see some of sparkle from the kaleidoscope colouring.

I can’t be crafting if I don’t have ink all over my hands. Even if I try to be neat, my hands certainly don’t look like it. I like using die cuts and stencils. Haven’t tried paste yet.

  21. Lisa Norstrom says:

First of all – awesome cards!!! I laughed so hard when I read about your two blue fingers!!! I can totally relate and have had to attend several functions/occasions with technicolor fingers/hands. My job during the day is decorating cakes so I often get color from the airbrush on my hands. When I get home I love to play in my craft room, one of my favorite things to do is get right into it with my hands – I love to smear gelatos with my fingers and so on. So yes, my hands seem to always have some sort of color on them!

  22. Melissa S says:

I love using stencils and pastes. It’s an easy, fast way to make a card with huge impact!

  23. Lindarub says:

I like to get messy when stamping,I like the look dies give cards have to try using stencils and paste.

  24. Barbara Carlson says:

I do stamp. I haven’t tried embossing paste yet. I like to try out things that are new to me.

  25. Evelyn says:

Messy is always good, in fact as I type this I have a couple yellow fingers from painting wood veneers. Love both my die cut machines manual and electronic. I have not done embossing but I stamp and use paints often.

  26. Pamela W. says:

Would love to win! Most of my crafting consists of card making, in which I do lots of stamping and die cutting. I do not typically get too messy when crafting. Sometimes I’ll paint with watercolor, but even that isn’t very messy!

  27. Linda Valenza says:

I have been working with stamps and I love them! I am still experimenting to see what inks and markers are the best. I haven’t tried paste yet but it sounds interesting!

  28. D.Ann C says:

Came here via Stampendous… What fab cards!! I love to stamp and die-cut. I’ve only used embossing paste a little and am still trying to get the hang of it… getting it smooth without squishing under the stencil (or all over me, but then again, when I craft EVERYTHING gets all over me! lol!).

  29. Gail L. says:

I only have to look at my desk to get messy!
    I love to stamp!
I haven’t been able to find embossing paste, guess I’ll have to shop online!
I haven’t tried stencils, but am impressed with what I see!

  30. Patti L says:

Cute technique. I like the looks of these things, but tend to avoid the process due to the mess! But if I have time and space it can be fun!

  31. Kathleen Christen says:

I get messy, yes. I stamp, use dies & emboss. I have stencils & I look forward to experimenting! I would love to try the pastes!

  32. Pam Crusberg says:

I can’t seem to make a card without getting ink all over myself. I don’t mind it though. I figure it’s part of the process. I like stencils, dies, and embossing folders too.

  33. MaryAnn Fortunato says:

I never mind getting messy when I’m creating, in fact, I expect it! I do some stamping, but I don’t have a very big collection yet. Never tried embossing paste but I love to experiment.

  34. R Goldfuss says:

Inky and glue fingers, that’s me. I have never tried the paste and would love to. I have used a stencil once or twice. I love my embossing folders and dies…just got hooked about a year ago and never looked back. Those cards are beautiful!

  35. Deb Urquhart says:

When I stamp or scrapbook I always get my hands full of ink, glue, glitter, embossing powder … love the feeling of accomplishment when I’m done with a card or page!

  36. Sara B says:

I get my hands messy doing any kind of craft! Stamping, coloring and even die cutting! (Not sure how when I die cut, but it’s been known to happen…) I haven’t tried embossing pastes before, but I love dry and heat embossing, so I’m sure I’d love embossing paste too!

  37. AQnne V says:

I get inky all the time-love it! Attended a 40th wedding anniversary party this weekend, and a friend commented on how nicely my finger tips matched my outfit….not my nails, mind you, my actual inky, multicolored finger tips! I didn’t even think about extra scrubbing before leaving-LOL!( I had been working on some envelopes for a swap, using many different techniques, including those you mentioned in the blog.) Still playing, refining, and always trying to learn new ways to get even inkier!

  38. Cynthia says:

I like to stamp and color with chalk or distress ink. I recently bought a few stencils but I’m not sure how I will use them. I’m sure I’ll make a big mess. I really don’t mind since my fingers get messy using distress ink

  39. Irene Grau says:

All of these are fabulous cards! I do get messy with ink. I’ve yet to play with paste. But I’m almost ready! Thanks for the giveaway!

  40. Marilyn H says:

I get stampy, inky, painty, and I love stencils. Some of my favorite embossing powders are from Stampendous. I love their stamps too.

  41. Joan Howard says:

I love anything to creative beautiful things both large and small! I have used embossing paste, stencils, alcohol markers, watercolors, etc. I must say I don’t mind getting my hands messy, but I really enjoy making greeting cards which require you to keep your fingers clean in order to prevent smudging your project! But, if I can get messy, I do!!! Thanks for a chance to win the surprise package! I will treasure it!

  42. Lois Theien says:

I love to stamp and scrapbook. But right now all of my supplies are in a storage unit as we have recently moved and don’t have our own place yet. I would to win the stuff from Stampendous. I have never done any embossing or die cuts, but I would love to try!

  43. Debbie Clever says:

Getting messy while creating is absolutely mandatory! My kids wouldn’t recognize me if I didn’t have some ink or glitter or paint on me somewhere!!

  44. Rachel says:

I’ve used stamping in scrapbook in, but never embossing. I’ve also carved my own stamps using speedball products, and stamped my own prints and cards. That’s pretty fun 🙂

  45. Carol Fritz says:

I have lots of stamps, but have not tried die cuts or embossing pastes. Would love to try both of those! Thanks for your site and all the inspiration!
