Designer Spotlight with Paige Evans: Dedra Long

Welcome to another edition of Designer Spotlight! Today I’m excited to show the amazing planner spreads and layouts made by Dedra Long!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started crafting: I’m a mom, wife, daughter and twice over cancer survivor. I started scrapbooking in 1996 after the birth of our first daughter. About a year later I started working a corporate position, everyday life took over and stopped scrapbooking all together. Then in 2001, I was diagnosed with stage III malignant melanoma cancer. Our daughter was five and if something was to happen with me how would she ever know how much I loved her, how I felt about her, advice I might like to tell her someday, etc. So, I started scrapbooking again and haven’t stopped since.

In May of this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I have to say in the last 6 to 7 months my relationship with God has taken a deeper connection. I seek Him more and I have started bible journaling in order to grow my relationship with Him even more. I find now, that I seek Him more, more than ever. This requires special attention and planned time that is dedicated just for Him, including prayers for others (including those that I have met or Insta-met in the crafting world.) This is a special hobby where you can meet the most inspiring, caring, supportive people.

In addition to scrapbooking and bible journaling I also LOVE to get creative in my planners. A planner for me is something (or somethings) I would like to focus on. I have one I carry to work, one for personal/family/creative and one I use as a faith planner. Instead of switching out purses or wallets I switch out planners, LOL!

Telling the stories of our family and recording the everyday is something that brings me joy. Our girls will know what bible verses meant to me, what our favorite vacations were and the milestones of their lives. Moments and memories that are irreplaceable.

Favorite thing to create: HHHmmm, that’s a tough one. The favorite thing would be what, at that moment, brought me joy, inspired me or a creative idea I would like to try.

What do you love about this hobby? Recording and documenting the moments of our family, as well as planning out and keeping our family on track.

5 fun facts about yourself:
1. I LOVE the holiday season.
2. I’m a Chevy truck person.
3. Home decorating is another passion of mine.
4. I drink black tea ALL day long.
5. Weather watching fanatic and rain lover (and ironically I live in Arizona).

Here is the exclusive project Dedra made for her feature:

Creating this monthly spread really got me in the spirit of the holiday season. Stamping some festive snowflakes, mistletoe and that cute bear with a scarf!

Here are a few more of Dedra’s favorite projects:

BIBLE ENTRY by Dedra Long

This bible journaling entry is being crazy thankful for Him and all of His blessings! Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Thessalonians 5:16-18 This year has been tough and this is a reminder to myself to always give thanks even when you face unthinkable times, times that are most difficult.

CELEBRATE by Dedra Long

When our oldest daughter left for college out of state and I had to stalk her Facebook and Instagram feeds to save photos in order to keep creating layouts. That first year apart was hard and the journaling in this layout reflects the feelings I had for her at that time.

This was a special anniversary for us. The first time we had been up in a hot air balloon. It was a special weekend that needed a special “pullout” album with journaling. This was such a fun layout to put together.

This was a weekly spread/planner dashboard in my faith panner. One of my favorite dashboards that moves between all of my planners. A constant reminder during my treatments to never give up. Dashboards are a wonderful place to create favorite quotes, motivational inspiration or even photos of family to look at throughout the year.

Thank you so much for joining me today and getting to know Dedra! Be sure to follow along on her sites to learn more about her and see her beautiful creations!

Saturdays With LeAnn

Hello Friend

Welcome back, my crafty friends!  I have some really great projects to share with you today.  You will be inspired to scrapbook, create beautiful cards, tackle a fun banner for your home, and whip up something yummy in the kitchen for a wonderful dessert!  Take a moment and sit back, relax, and get motivated.

Pocket Page Planners By Layle Koncar

I don’t know about you, but my life is too hectic to get through each day without a planner.  So with that said, why not have one that will brighten up that busy schedule using fun photos and embellishments? Today I have Layle Koncar here to show how you can change up your planner using different pockets as your mood changes; or if you you’d rather keep the pages the same, that’s great, too! Planners are all about you!

Pocket Page Planners

Don’t let those fun pocket page inserts just be for your pocket page layouts; use them for your planners as well.  Decorate them to suit your own personal style.  Pop in a bit of color and and add throughout your monthly or weekly pages. Click here to see how Layle put her planner together to give you some ideas how to get started.  Journaling cards are great for memory keeping and events that you don’t want to forget.  Pull out some of your pocket page pieces, along with your journaling inserts, and dress up your planner.  Your days will seem a bit less stressful as you see your beautiful photos and fun creations brightening your day!

Hello Friend By Kimberly Crawford

This beautiful card was created by using deco foil, adhesives, glue dots, translucent vellum, die cut flowers, a clear stamp, and gold embossing powder. Isn’t this card simply gorgeous?

Hello Friend

Kimberly Crawford is a fabulous designer for My Favorite Things. Click here to see her video which gives step-by-step instructions to create this beautiful card.  She gives great tips for foiling without a machine, and who would have ever thought of using glue dots for her polka dots?!  You will definitely want to give this one a try!  🙂 Thank you, Kimberly, for sharing such wonderful techniques with us.

Just Because By Leslie Miller

I just love Leslie’s choice of stamp for this beautiful, clean, and refreshing card.  It is so fun to recycle some of your older stamps.  Dig into your stash of stamps and reuse some of them you haven’t used for a while. You will be surprised how easily you can turn that “old” stamp back to “classy”!

Just Because

You don’t have to be a professional to create a watercolor look image.  Don’t be afraid to pull out your distress markers and distress inks; you’ll have so much fun creating with them.  Pop on over to Running With Scissors for more of Leslie’s fun projects.  Wouldn’t it be fun to go to your mailbox and receive a handmade treasure from a dear friend?  Everyone loves a beautiful handmade card.  What a joy they are to receive!

 Seashore Banner By Kathy Clement

Today we have a very inspiring seashore-themed banner by Kathy Clement.  The soft colors of teal along with all of the fabulous embellishments caught me eye while I was visiting the Kathy By Design blog.  I highly recommend popping in for a visit – Kathy is sure to inspire your creativity!

Seashore Banner

Layering up elements and shells found during her own beach adventures make for lots of dimension and added interest.  Isn’t it funny how just one piece of paper can inspire an entire project? This beautiful beach-themed banner was created using Prima papers, embellishments, and flowers. Kathy painted some of her chipboard with Picket Fence Distress Ink and added some embossing powder while wet to age it.  Doesn’t this just make you want to take a long walk on the beach?  Thank you, Kathy, for your wonderful inspiration and creativity!

Strawberry Rhubarb Shortcake By Elizabeth LaBau

This amazing dessert looks too beautiful to eat!  Just think how your family and friends will be impressed with your talent in the kitchen!  This cake is filled with tangy rhubarb curd and sliced fresh strawberries. I am sure your mouth is already watering, am I right?

Strawberry Rhubarb Shortcake

This could be used for a very fancy occasion, or you don’t have to put the flowers on top and you’d still have a beautiful cake!  Either way it will be a big hit when you serve it. Click here to find your recipe from Elizabeth LaBau.  She will give you step-by-step directions to create your own beautiful cake.  Have fun creating and enjoy!

I hope you have been filled today with lots of great ideas. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will see you back next Saturday!

Freebie Friday – Write It Designs

Write It Designs Notebooks

Freebie Friday with Jen Walker

Hello and Happy Friday! This week I am writing about the custom notepads available from Write It Designs. You may remember that a couple of months ago I wrote a post about the cool 2016 planner I received from them. I really like how you can go to their website and customize their products to suit your own needs, so I ordered both a planner and a couple notepads.

For my first notepad, I customized a large planner notepad. I put our family name across the top, added lots of purple and the rainbow of colours that I love everywhere else.

Write It Designs Notebooks - Walker

These planner notepads are perfect for so many ideas. Each week I use this notepad for something different. Sometimes I use it to list our meals, grocery lists, chores, or to dos. On really busy weeks, it becomes a second copy of our schedule so we can all keep track of who is driving who where. Every week it makes me happy for how it helps to keep me organized. This notepad even gives my kids a place to draw little pictures for me or to write lovely little notes to me. Oh, and did I tell you I love the rainbow of colour across the bottom!

Walker Calendar

The second notepad I created is a daily to do list for myself. Everyone needs a to do list, and I figured having one that actually says my name may give me an extra little push to get my list completed! My favourite colour is blue, so when designing this notepad, I chose blue, blue and little bit more blue. There are lots of other options though.

Jen's To Do List

You may be wondering how you customize your notepads and planners. It is actually very simple and loads of fun. I enjoyed being able to change things back and forth and switch the font, the colours and the patterns.

Write It Designs Custom Notepad

The Write It Design website also provides lots of help in using their customization tool as well as ideas for how to use their different notepads.

The great thing about Write It Designs are all the options they provide for you. They even offer notepads that are ready to ship. Here are two different sample notepads that you can order premade. Aren’t they fun!
