What a beautiful way to preserve a special photo!  Jill also gives a perfect example of how to include the mixed media style without overpowering her precious photo.  I just love all the beautiful layering that Jill also achieved.  She really has the skills and techniques to give her layout a pop.  Her layout is a piece of art that is all about texture, techniqu,e and a great imagination.  A big shout out to Jill for an outstanding job on this layout!  I am sure you are curious about what products she used, so click here and I will take you on over to Pretty Little Studio where you can write them all down.  While you are there be sure to check out her other fabulous projects.  You are going to be so inspired!

Technique Spotlight with Paige Evans: Texture

Paige-technique-header

Hey everybody! Today I have a layout to share with you featuring some of my favorite techniques: hand stitching, lots of flowers, and something new: a modeling paste background! Scroll to the end of this post to find the process video to watch and see how this layout came together from start-to-finish.

Over spring break we went on a road trip that involved over 30 hours of driving – to help pass the time between destinations I brought along some stitching projects, including this floral design which is a free design from Paper Issues! They have so many amazing and FREE cut files, I highly recommend taking a look 🙂 Anyway, I used white thread to stitch on white cardstock to create a textured look.

I thought about painting in the design, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt like it should stay white on white. But, I still needed COLOR! I love lots and lots of color. There are quite a few flowers from my Oh My Heart collection with Pink Paislee available in the Silhouette Design Store so I downloaded them, printed them, then used my Silhouette Cameo to cut them out! Easy peasy!

To make the background I used an old KI Memories (remember them???) die cut background as a stencil along with modeling paste on white textured cardstock. I was going for lots of texture on this page! Once the paste dried I layered the stitched floral design on top then began tucking the die cut flowers underneath. I found a colorful photo, typed my journaling on the photo before printing, and then placed it at the bottom of the page. To help bring more focus to the photo I tucked even more flowers under the top.

Here is the process video:

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you are inspired to create a fun and textured layout!

Vellum Overlay Cards

Do you have spring fever?  I know I sure do!  After the winter most of us had, I am sure you are ready for some beautiful spring-themed projects.  With spring on it’s way, it is also a reminder that Easter is just around the corner.  When I think about spring or Easter, pretty pastel colors and flowers come to mind.  So with that said, I would like to share some fun projects using flowers.  I hope today you will be inspired with these fun spring projects.

Best Days Of Our Lives By Alicia McNamara

We all know how much texture and dimension adds to a layout, card, or mixed media project. Alicia has definitely demonstrated this in this layout. We often use the term “Happy Papercrafting” because we know the opportunities with paper are so much more than just on the page.  Today, Alicia shares her gorgeous example of beautiful altered art. I would also like to share a tip that will help you when creating your outstanding layouts.  TIP: Choose a focal point on your layout and then create embellishments that will continue to tell the story from that point.  It is amazing how well this works!

Best Days Of Our Lives

Alicia’s layout is full of all kinds of beautiful elements.  It is really light and colored with some pastels, but there are also some black parts here and there to give it a nice contrast.  I absolutely love that!  Alicia adds wording perfectly and it tells so much about the photo.  This layout is certainly an eye catcher and is very well done.  Let me take you over to Time to Create where you can write down all of the products you will need to start your own layout.  Take some time while you are at Alicia’s blog to see more of her beautiful creations.  You will certainly leave her blog feeling very inspired.

Vellum Overlay Cards By Jennifer McGuire

Not sure how to use vellum?   Do you ever struggle using vellum?  Here’s a fun technique using vellum that will turn your curiosity (or struggles) into having fun and being very creative.  You will enjoy working with vellum so much that I guarantee you will make many more projects using it. These beautiful cards created by Jennifer McGuire have a vellum overlay that give each one a very soft look.

Vellum Overlay Cards

Jennifer started her cards by simply using white embossing powder to emboss the floral image on vellum.  There is a little bit of glitter added to the lines of the flower for extra interest and a pearl added to the center. Adding some color to her image, she started by stamping the layering floral image with the Altenew Beautiful Day Stamp Set using different shades of Altenew ink on a small note card.  Let me escort you over to watch Jennifer’s YouTube Video on how she created her card, along with her step-by-step instructions.  You are going to love every minute of her video.  Step out of your comfort zone and take some time to experiment and just have fun creating!

Absolutely Beautiful By Melissa Phillips

Cards might be little, but they are packed with so much inspiration.  This is one of those cards that can be so versatile.  Send it as a Spring, Hello, Birthday, Thinking Of You, or even an Easter Card.  Who wouldn’t love to receive this adorable card in the mail?

Absolutely Beautiful

Melissa’s card started with the word beautiful to create the theme for her card.  She used the Reverse Confetti You’re So stamp set for her sentiment.  The beauty of this stamp set is it has four uplifting words that can be mixed and matched to create numerous uplifting sentiments.  She also used the Blooms ‘N Buds stamp set to create the pretty blossoms.  For the background, Melissa used the XOXO Hearts Confetti Cuts.  Melissa’s creativity is amazing!  I love her combinations and the colors she chose are so pretty and perfect!  Click here and I will take you over to see more of Melissa’s wonderful talent and fabulous creations.

Dream Passionately By Cathy Cafun

How do you come up with your ideas to start layouts?  For me, inspiration usually comes from sifting through photos, which I love to do.  When I stumble across the ones I want to use, I usually come up with some quick ideas for starting a layout.  One of my favorite go-to ideas is using chipboard; its a great way to add some dimension to your layout.  This ultra-sweet layout was created by Cathy Cafun using some Dusty Attic chipboard. Using frames is a great way to draw the eye to your photos.  Other favorite techniques of mine when using chipboard include painting along with adding glitter, stickles, texturizing elements, and so much more.

Dream Passionately

What a wonderful design Cathy created, and her details are perfect.  Don’t you just love how she tied all the chipboard pieces together using flowers?  Cathy’s combination of pastels are glorious and makes us hopeful that spring is not that far away.  Click here and I will be happy to escort you over to the blog “Cathy Can’t Help Herself” where you will be thrilled with all the inspiration! While you are visiting Cathy’s blog be sure to check out all of the other beautiful layouts she has to share.

Simple Stories Posh Card

Hey, everyone! Roree here with another Make It! Monday project. Today I am sharing a card I created adding texture with my sewing machine.

I decided to play with the Simple Stories Posh collection. I used the Combo Sticker sheet, the 3×4 Journaling Card Elements patterned paper, the 4×6 Horizontal Elements patterned paper, and the Bradz pack.

I cut out the 4 x 6″ striped card from the 4×6 Horizontal Elements sheet and added zigzag stitches on each of the white stripes with my sewing machine.

I put together the sentiment by layering two 3 x 4″ cards from the 3×4 Journaling Card Elements sheet, which I trimmed down and decorated the edges with scalloped scissors. Then, I decorated the card with stickers from the Combo Stickers sheet and one of the adhesive Bradz to finish.

It’s a fun and colorful card that is sure to brighten anyone’s day.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Make It! Monday project. Thanks so much for stopping by!
